AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING fJEW CHAPTER 107 OF THE FRIDLEY
CITY CODE ENTITLED FIRE DEPARTMENT AND REPEALING PRIOR
CHAPTER 107 ENTITLED FIRE �EPARTMENT
THE CITY COUNCIL OF TIiE CITY OF FRIDLEY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
107.01 Creation CREATION
There is established in the City of Fridley a�ire Department consisttng
of patd and volunteer members. The officers of the Department may consist
of, but are not l�mited to, a Chief, Deputy Chief, one or more Assistant
Chiefs and three or more Captains. There shall be not less than twenty-
f�ve (25) and not more than forty (40) firefighters.
107 02 Fire Chief
FIRE CHIEF
The Chief shall have control over all of the f�re fighttng apparatus and
shall be ultimately responsible for its care and conditton; shall assume
coinmand and respons�blity for a fire when on the scene, shall supervise
�nvestigation and determiniation of ftre cause, shall supervise the
tra�ning and discipline of Fire Department personnel and shall enforce fire
prevent�on laws and safety regulations.
107.03 Ftre Prevention PREVENTION
The Fire �epartment shall provide Fire Prevention services in accordance with
Chapter 108.
107.04 Training TRAINING
The Chief shall appoint an Assistant Chief as Trai m ng Offi cer who shall
guide and work w�th the Captains in the tnstruction of the ftrefighters in
improved methods of firefighting and fire prevent�on.
107.05 Records RECORDS
The Ch�ef shall keep in convenient form a completed record of all fires. Such
record shall include the time of the alarm, location of fi re, cause of
fire, if known, type of 6uilding, name of owner and tenant, purpose for
which occupied, value of huilding and contents, members of the department
responding to the alarm, and such other information as the Chief may deem
advisable or as may be required from time to time hy the Counctl or State
Insurance Department.
107.06 Deputy Chief
DEPUTY CHIEF
In the absence or disability of the Chief, the Deputy Chief shall perform
all the functions and exercise all of the authority of the Chief.
107.07 Membership
MEMBERSHIP
The Deputy Ch�ef, Assistant Chiefs, and Firefighters shall be not less than
eighteen (18) nor more than sixty-five (65) years of age and able-bodied.
Each cand�date for probationary firefighter must satisfy certa�n mim mum
�ob related requirements of height, weight, education, and any other �ob-
related qual�fications and pass a satisfactory physical examination.
107.08 Forfeiture of Membership
FORFEITURE OF
MEMBERSHIP
Al1 members of the �epartment shall attend a minimum of twenty-four (24)
practice drills per year. Failure to do so may forfeit membership in the
�epartment

107.09 Relief Association

RELIEF ASSOCIATION
The members and officers of the Fire Department shall organize themselves
tnto a F�remen's Relief Association. (Ref. 31)
107.10 Public Offi ce
PU6LIC OFFICE
Officers of the Fire Department who have 6een elected and qualified as C�ty
officials in Fridley shall immediately resign their Fire Department offices
and successors shall be selected.
107.11 Prohibition
PROHIBITION
It shall be unlawful for any person to give or make, or cause to be given or made,
an alarm or ftre without probable cause, or to neglect or refuse to obey any
reasonable order of the Chief, or officer in charge at a fire or to interfere
with the F�re Department �n the discharge of its dut�es Any vtolat�on of th�s
sectton is a misdemeaner and ts sub,7ect to all penalties provided for such
violations under the provtsions of Chapter 901 of this code.
