AND BILLBOARDS WITHIN THE CITY OF FRIDLEY, PROVIDING
FOR TI�'POSTING OF BONDS; THE ISSUANCE OF PERMITS ANp
FEES THEREFOR, THE REVOCATIOH OF PERMITS; INSPECTION

1. There ia hereby enacted a net► Chapter of the City Code of
Fridley as followa:

56.01 This ordinance shall hereafter be known and cited as
the "Sign Regulatione:"
Section 56.02 DBFINITIONS.

(2) SIGN, AUTOMOBILE SERVICB. Ttie Term "Automobile Service Sign" �
means any aign Lhat doee not exceed 32 square feet directing the motoriat � `

travelling along the highway to a place or places catering to motoring needa. . j

These include: Auto laundrq, eating eatablishment, motels, motor hotels, ; �
refreshment drive-ins, public garages, parking areas, repair garages, service �. �

(5) SIGN, FLASAING. The term "F1a�shing Sign" shall mean any
illumiaated aign on which ttie artificial light is not maintained both atationary
and conatant in intenaitq and color at•all times when auch a sign is in use.
(6) SIGN, IDENTIFIGATION. The term ".Identification Sign" ehall mean
a aign identifying a reeident, school, church or other non-bueiness use.
t(7)' SIGN,ILLUMINATBD.. The term "Illuminated Sign" ahall mean any
eign which has characters, lettere,�figures, design Ar outline�illuminated
^ bq electric lights or luminous tubea ae a part of the aign proper.
F8) SIGN, TEI�ORARY. The term "Temporary Sign" shall mean any aign,.

which is not permanently affixed to the ground or a building.
Section 56.03 FEES. Permit fees .for aigns shall be:
(1) For eigns 40 square fe�t or lesa an initial fee of $10.,00 and�
an snnual charge of $S.00.foY an inspection of such aign.
The annual fee ahall.not be charged for eigns, attached directly

on a building, which advertisea producCs sold or servicea provided in that
building.

, (2) For eigns larger than 40 equare feet the initial fee ahall be

the sign is to be attached or erected.
(3) Position of the sign or other advertising atructures in relation ..
to nenrby buildinge or etructures. ��
(4) 1�o blue printa or ink drawinga of the plana and apecifications

Section 56.05 LICENSES AND BONIDS. No person, firm, or corporation �. �
ahall engage in the businees of erecting signs, nor shall he be entitled to ° �
�a permit to erect a aign under thi8 ordinance unlesa licensed to do so tsy the �..,�
City Council, Such licenae may.be granted by the City Council after written �

application to,the Citr Clerk� accampanied by an annual licenae fea of $25.00

aurety bond in the sum of $1,000.00 conditioned that the licenaee shall make .
proper applicat.ion for all sign work, pay necessary permit fees, conform ��
to all the provisiona o� this ordinance and indemnify and hold the City, ite
officers and agents, harmleae from any damage or claim reaulting froua or
related to the erection or maintenance of any sign'in the.City�by the liceneee.•
Section 56.Q6 PERMITS. It ehall be unlawful to keep, install, •
'conetruct, erect, alter, revise, reconetruct, or nave anq outdoor eign or.
aign atructure wiChin the City of Fridl�eq without firat obtaining.a permit
therefor, except the following: ' ' . � •
(1) A aign not exceeding 75 aquare feet in area pertaining only to
the eale, rental, or lease of the premiaea upon which'diap�ayed. �
. (2) An identificatioa aign, not exceeding 8 equare feet in area.
(3) A buainesa aign not exceeding 10 feet in area, which aign ie
placed on non-public property. � . �

may not be located in any d.iatrict except by a epecial permit.
(12) The illwnination of any sign located Within 50 feet of an�esides
� �ntia��'dd�trict lot line shall be defused or indirect, non-flashing, and dea-
igned so as not to reflect direct raye of light into adjacent residencee.
{13) If a Commercial or Industrial building faces a freeway or
major arterial, the permitted eize �f the aign ahall be�double for each
additional 25 feet of frnnt qard aetback, except that such iac�eaee ahall not
result in a aign area more than 20x of the. area of the face of the building�
on which the.eign is located. , ,
� (14) TEI�ORARY POLI�ICAL SIGNS. Temporary political signs ehall be
