The mation carried. � DIRECTOR'S REPORT Mr. Brown's report covered the following ite^�s: l. The Planning Comnission's Rearganization Chart - He explained that . after the first of the year, our meetings will be held on different ' days, in order that they not conflict w�th the City Council Meetings. 2. Memo from the Horseshoe League giving a report on who won the . championships. That also appeared in the Sun newspaper. The , report also mentioned whai they would like to have for next year. They would like to have an additional caurt added onto the existing site. h1r. &rown explained that the Department plans as of naw, ta add the additional court. He mentioned that there was not enough money in the budget for 1975 to add this other caurt,-but that it will be done in 1976. He explained that yvu need 8 courts to rotate �• properly, and that they have 7 at the present time. • 3. 4. 5. � � i � , . � E Letter from P�r. Ted Rue o� the .H.A.F. thanking the Commission for its time and cooperation at the last meeting. � Memo to the f.Y.S.A. from the Director, recomnending that they � take over the handling of the Girls Softball Program next year, in conjunction with the Parks and Recreation Department. .: Soccer Field'Layout - This was done at the request of the Comnissiuners at the last meeting. The proposal shows costs involved for the various stages, which tatals $6,000. Mr. Harris asked Mr. Brown how much money we had in the budget for�lg76 far soccer. Mr. Brown could not recollect, but felt �t was approximately $600.QQ. . Mr. Harris s�ated that the Cor�nission recognized that ihe entire amount could not be spent on a better saccer field, however, they would like to see some improvements done. Mrs. Seeger mentioned that�they realized that the soccer group was quite smali at the present ti�ne and that a great deal of money could not be invested in the program as yet. Mr. Kasick commented that he belonged to the H.A.F. and the Football Associa- tian. He said that they went out and worked to earn money to help � t.�teir organizations and the facilities. Mr. Harris replied that some times when a program first starts out�, there may not be an organization at the beginning because there are not enough people interested in the program. . . . _�- .t � . S ' - . Ttie soccer games were played at Locke Park this year. Mr. Brown mentioned that there was`plenty of roQm at either Madsen or Ruth � � Circle for the children to play there. He said that the goals � � couid be taken out of Locke and installed at either park. Mr. Brown I .. explained that at Madsen or Ruth Circle, the goals would be put up �, for the season of soccer and taken down afterwards. There was some � discussion as to which of the two parks would be most readily .avail- . able for soccer playing. Mr. Brown explained that if soccer continues �to grow in Fridley,, that Locke Park would be the site of the permanent soccer field in the Master Plan. He explained that the permanent field eouid be built in stages, starting with the grading, then the . seedfng of the field, etc. He went on to explain that you would have � to start by usinc� an earthmaver, which the City daes not have. The - . area they are using now is very�uneven for soccer playing. � The Comnissioners asked Mr. Brown to contact Juan Salas and shaw him . � both Madsen and Ruth Circle Park and ask his suggestion as to which one he would like most. MOTION BY CALDSVELL, seconded by Seeger, that Mr. Brown contact Juan � . Salas, show him both Madsen and Ruth Circle Par.k, to agree upon a �' location which is suitable for both parties and m�ve the goals accord- � ing3y. The motion carried. ` FRIGLEY PARK LOT 1-2-3 - Bl.00K 15 ; Mr. Harris said that these were three lots which were iax delinquent. The mota.on carried. PARKS b R�C�2EATION PR4GRAM SUPERVISOR . . . Mr. Srown i�traduced_Mr. Chuck Kasick, the Program Supervisor for the various �� - sport activities in the Parks Department for the past three seasons. H� said that Mr. Kasick is the liaison between the Park Department and F.Y.F.A. and.H.A.F. 'He � �nt�Ioned that Mr. 1Casick_is very consciencious and has done a good job. Mr. Kasick ` w�s ai tire meeting strictly to meet the Commissioners and introduce himself. "N�'IE THE PARKS" CONTEST � � 'fhere was some d�scussian regarding the contest and the lack of respor►se to 1t. j by the ehiidren. The Conmission was dissatisfied with the naraes chasen for the parks 1 by the Camnitiee. Mrs. Seeger suggested going to the library and loaking up a list 'j of Minnesota geographica] names. 'She s�aid the book describes where the names originated fran and they might be'able to find some apprupriate numes which are Minnesota ariented. Sh�'mentfoned several Indian names as an example.. She suggested a particular book _ whicfi she said she would try to find a»d examine for ideas. Mrs. Wyatt explained that only two members �Of the Canmittee designated to pick � � the best name for eacb park from the entries) showed up at the meeting held for that � purpo�e.
