I am requesting a iulltime clerk of municipal court for the city of Fridley.
We handled over 140cases in the Fridley Municipal court in 1963. We have court on
friday nights and on every other monday. We also have court on one tuesday night a
month. We have all jury cases on each saturday that is necessary.
We will average about 12-15 jnry cases this year in 1964. I would anticipate about
200Q cases this year, because the highwaq patrol will ba running about 2 times a month
at our main interetions in Fridley what they call saturation patrols which usally
average about 150 tickets in each case. Also the Fridley police have hired 4 new
police officers and that will increase that activity. Receipts will increase about
$5000.OQ. I also find that there are a whole lot more citizens complaint. My clerk tel?
me that over a 40 hour a week, he would also average about 260 hours over that in a
, years time. This includes all jury cases, and other court dates. The clerk of conrt is
also called out serveral times in the middle of night by the police dept.
• Here are some comparable salaries of other suburban courts.
 :• :.
,
•' Hopkins Clerkof court $488.00 partime. Bloomington has 3 or 4 clerks that handle about
6000 cases ad their salaries are total about $18000.00 or $19000.00. Brook n Center
is about $515.00 a month and they have no night court or saturday co . 11 de
; clerk oi coA u t in the Mls court get $73 0.00 a year for a 40 hour week. When the
' nw Hennepin Co court system goes int eing 1965 all clerk of courts with 4 years o!
: service get $7350.00 per year for a 40 hour week.My clerk has about 5 years service aa
. clerk of court for the city of Fridley. My clerk would be responsible to be at all
` court caes including all jury cases. He would also handle all probation cases in the
office. ,By doing away with serneral things in the court budget we can have a fulltime
.
; clerk of court without increasing our budget. I am proposing that the eerk of aourt
' be paid'$7200.00. I would also propose that we leave in the budget about $400.OQ for
;_ partime clerk of court or other partime ervices in case the clerk would be sick or for
 some other emergency.

: This taas discussed b,y the Fire Department at it's meeting of Feb.6tn,
F and the Departmer.t s unanimously opposed to such an action fer
, several reasons. It was the feeling of the department that there
would be considerable inconvienence to the Court cused by our
response to fires ar_d the many drill activities nd meetinS held
; in the station. There was also a great ceal of concPrn aiou.t the
prese2lce of some of the people that the coiart is compelled to deal

"_'he men were not only concrned with the possibility oi some pilfering
