RES 1965-40 - 00011313,To% RESOLUTION NO. 40 -1965 A RESOLUTION SEEKING STATE LEGISLATION TO ENABLE A PRIVATE ON -SALE OF INTOXICATING LIQUOR WITHIN A MUNICIPAL LIMITS BY RETAINING THE RIGHT FOR THE MUNICIPAL OPERATION OF OFF -SALE INTOXICATING LIQUOR WHEREAS, various municipalities in the State of Minnesota including the City of Fridley of Anoka County, Minnesota are engaged in the municipal operation of on -sale and off -sale of intoxicating liquors, and WHEREAS, the business community, interested citizens, and the ' City Council of Fridley after discussion and numerous informal surveys have concluded that the public interest would be best served by having continued municipal operation of the off -sale of intoxicating liquors, but the granting of licenses to private enterprise for the on -sale of intoxicating liquors, and WHEREAS, the Minnesota State Legislature presently in session has before it the consideration of some general legislation that would permit a municipality to continue with municipal operation of off -sale intoxi- cating liquor and permit the granting of private on -sale intoxicating liquor licenses, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Fridley meeting in regular session on the 1st day of March, 1965, as follows: ATTEST: 1. That the present Minnesota State Legislature be urged to amend the existing State Statutes to provide for the retention by a municipality of the right to operate a municipal off -sale intoxicating liquor store or stores and at the same time be enabled to issue private on -sale intoxicating liquor licenses. 2. That support be given to general legislation applicable to all municipalities in the State presently operating municipal stores for such legislation. , 3. That special legislation be introduced applicable to the municipality of the City of Fridley so that a bill applicable on a local basis may to adopted in the event the general legislation is not adopted. 4. That copies of this resolution be forwarded forthwith to State Representatives Connie Burchett and John Nordin, Senator Vernon S. Hoium, and to the Honorable Karl Rolvaag.
