RES 1965-43 - 00011318RESOLUTION NO. 43 -1965
RESOLUTION CONCERNING HUMAN RIGHTS AND VOTER REGISTRATION
WHEREAS, The Constitution of the United States specifically provides
for each citizen the rights to register, vote, and peaceably assemble, and
WHEREAS, the denial or infringement of these rights anywhere in the
nation diminishes the rights of citizens everywhere and endangers the
democratic principles on which this nation is founded, and
WHEREAS, it is the patriotic duty and moral obligation of each
individual to protect these rights for all other citizens,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of
Fridley as follows:
1. That the City Council of Fridley condemns the illegal, immoral,
and inhuman treatment of our fellow citizens, who seek only
their constitutional rights; and we especially condemn all
public officials who by their actions permit, condone, and
encourage these conditions.
2. That the Federal Government take all necessary action to bring
the full weight of the constitution and the will of the people
to bear on those responsible for the denial of human rights to
any citizen through rigorous enforcement of existing law and
through economic sanctions designed to bring about the restora-
tion of civil rights to all persons.
3. That the Congress enact a reasonable voter registration and
election law that applies equally to all citizens in all public
elections.
4. That copies of this resolution be forwarded forthwith to
Senator Eugene McCarthy, Senator Walter Mondale, Congressman
Clark MacGregor, Governor Karl Rolvaag, State Senator Vernon
Hoium, and State Representatives Burchett and Nordin.
