RES 1965-43 - 00011318RESOLUTION NO. 43 -1965 RESOLUTION CONCERNING HUMAN RIGHTS AND VOTER REGISTRATION WHEREAS, The Constitution of the United States specifically provides for each citizen the rights to register, vote, and peaceably assemble, and WHEREAS, the denial or infringement of these rights anywhere in the nation diminishes the rights of citizens everywhere and endangers the democratic principles on which this nation is founded, and WHEREAS, it is the patriotic duty and moral obligation of each individual to protect these rights for all other citizens, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Fridley as follows: 1. That the City Council of Fridley condemns the illegal, immoral, and inhuman treatment of our fellow citizens, who seek only their constitutional rights; and we especially condemn all public officials who by their actions permit, condone, and encourage these conditions. 2. That the Federal Government take all necessary action to bring the full weight of the constitution and the will of the people to bear on those responsible for the denial of human rights to any citizen through rigorous enforcement of existing law and through economic sanctions designed to bring about the restora- tion of civil rights to all persons. 3. That the Congress enact a reasonable voter registration and election law that applies equally to all citizens in all public elections. 4. That copies of this resolution be forwarded forthwith to Senator Eugene McCarthy, Senator Walter Mondale, Congressman Clark MacGregor, Governor Karl Rolvaag, State Senator Vernon Hoium, and State Representatives Burchett and Nordin.
