A RESOLUTION URGING PASSAGE OF HOUSE FILE #1272 AND COMPANION SENATE BILL
RELATING TO THE USE OF THE 1970 CENSUS FOR THE DISTRIBUTION OF CIGARETTE,
LIQUOR AND SALES TAXES
WHEREAS, the City of Fridley's population increased by 4,444 from 1965
to 1970; and
WHEREAS, cigarette, liquor and general sales tax State aid are distributed
on the basis of population figures; and
WHEREAS, the City's budget, as adopted for the year 1971, has been set
on the basis of the 1970 census figures being used; and
WHEREAS, the City cannot afford this loss of revenue.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Fridley
goes on record as urging passage of House File #1272 and the companion Senate
bill, which would have the effect of requiring that the 1970 census data be
used in distributing cigarette, liquor and sales tax money.
