RES 1972-104 - 00008475Fi RESOLUTION NO. 104 - 1972 A RESOLUTION OPPOSING SENATE FILE 1861 RELATING TO A 40 HOUR WORK WEEK FOR FULL TIME FIREMEN WHEREAS, the labor contract currently in force and agreed to by the Firefighters of the City of Fridley and the City of Fridley provides for a 60 hour work week and, WHEREAS, a substantial portion of the 60 hour duty time per week is normally spent sleeping and, WHEREAS, it is common practice amono municipalities that employ full- time firefighters to schedule work weeks longer than 40 hours because of the fact that much of the time the firefighters are on duty is not spent in actual work but consists of being present and available and, WHEREAS, it would cause severe hardship to the City of Fridley if the 40 hour work Creek requirement were instituted for full -time firemen and, WHEREAS, it would virtually prohibit the establishment at some future time of additional full -time firefighter positions on the Fridley Fire Department, NOW, THEREFORE, BE .IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Fridley hereby goes on record as being opposed to a 40 hour work week for firemen as contained in Senate File 1861 and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Manager is hereby directed to furnish copies of all of this resolution to Congressional Representatives from this District.
