RES 1972-28 - 00008322t RESOLUTION NO. 28 - 1972 A RESOLUTION REQUESTING SCHOOL DISTRICTS NO. 11, 13 AND 16 TO CONSIDER CHANGE OF SCHOOLS NAMES WHEREAS, Anoka - Hennepin Independent School District #11, Columbia Heights Independent School District #13 and Independent School District #16 includes within its boundaries more than one municipality, and parts thereof which include the City of Fridley, and WHEREAS, The School Boards have heretofore named some secondary (Junior and Senior High) schools with the name of the municipality in which it is located, and WHEREAS, All of the students enrolled at these Junior and Senior High Schools are not necessarily residents of the municipality of the same name, and WHEREAS, All the students residing in a municipality do not attend secondary schools within that municipality, and WHEREAS, These conditions create confusion in the minds of students, other residents, and sports fans. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, By the City Council of the City of Fridley that the Board of Education of Anoka - Hennepin Independent School District #11 be requested to rename Coon Rapids Junior High School and Coon Rapids Senior High School, the Board of Education of Columbia Heights Independent School District #13 be requested to rename Columbia Heights Senior High School and the Board of Education of Independent School District #16 be requested to rename Spring Lake Park Junior and Spring Lake Park Senior High Schools, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the new names chosen be selected in consultation with community leaders from the names of nationally famous people, educators, early local pioneers or settlers, or Indian tribes of local origin.
