RESOLUTION NO. 56 -1973
A RESOLUTION URGING THE PASSAGE OF HOUSE FILE NUMBER 1463
RELATING TO INTOXICATING LIQUOR REMOVING THE CEILING ON THE ,
NUMBER OF ON SALE LIQUOR LICENSES, AMENDING MINNESOTA STATUTES
1971, SECTION 340.11, SUBDIVISION 7 -a, AND REPEALING MINNESOTA
STATUTES 1971, SECTION 340.11, SUBDIVISIONS 6, 7, AND 8
WHEREAS, the City of Fridley Council has received and carefully
considered House File 1463, which amends Minnesota Statutes 1971,
Section 340.11 Subdivision 7 -a, and
WHEREAS, House File 1463 would repeal Minnesota Statues 1971,
Section 340.11, Subdivision 6, 7, and 8, which would repeal the
existing limitations on the number of private on sale liquor licenses,
which may be issued pursuant to the split liquor law, and
WHEREAS, House File 1463 gives more authority to municipal Councils
in determing the appropriate number of liquor licenses for its com-
munity within more reasonable limits, and
WHEREAS, House File 1463 would allow municipalities to issue a
number of licenses over a minimum provided the appropriate number
of qualified applicants are available in the respective communities,
and
WHEREAS, additional liquor licenses are an important attraction in
the development of quality restaurants, hotels and motels in the
City of Fridley, and ,
WHEREAS, these existing Minnesota Statutes unrealistically limit
the number of private licenses that can be issued by municipalities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL, of the City of
Fridley, that the Council urges the Commerce and Economic Development
Committee to adopt House File 1463 which amends Minnesota Statutes
1971, Section 340.11, Subdivision 7 -a, and repeals Minnesota Statutes
1971, Section 340.11, Subdivision 6, 7, and 8.
