RESOLUTION NO. 126 -1974
A RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE DEVELOPMENT OF NORTH PARK
WHEREAS, the City of Fridley owns a tract of approximately 124 acres
of undeveloped land presently known as North Park, and
WHEREAS, at the November 5, 1974 General Election the City of Fridley
conducted an Advisory Referendum asking the Public to vote on the question
of whether North Park should be developed as a golf course or as a nature
center, and
WHEREAS, the Official Canvass of this election shows
5,924 voters favored nature center development
2,764 voters favored golf course development
168 did not vote or were defective
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Fridley:
1. A clear majority of the citizens of Fridley favor the development
of North Park as a nature center.
2. Previous acts of the Fridley City Council designating North Park
as a golf course are hereby revoked.
3. The Fridley City Council does hereby designate North Park for preliminary
development as a nature center.
4. The City administration is ordered to undertake discussions with '
interested groups and individuals to prepare a proposal for the
development of North Park as a Nature Center, and report back at.
the City Council Public Hearing Meeting, February 10, 1975.
5. Copies of this Resolution shall be circulated to all interested
governmental units and local organizations, including:
Adjacent Municipalities
School Districts serving Fridley residents
Anoka County Commissioners
Metropolitan Council
Minnesota Department of Natural Resources
Minnesota Environmental Quality Council.
