GUIDELINES FOR NAMING PARKS
v' ''
It has been my experience that the fotlowing are the most commonly
used guidelines when naming a park area:
(1) Every attempt is made to name parks after some natural feature
that would identify with the park area.
(2) If there is some special feature unique to a park and/or a
location of a park, this has sometimes been used in creating
a name.
(3) Many parks are named with reference points in mind, such as
a housing development, city street and the like.
(4) Some cities do have policies
acres in size or larger will
after the donor.
that any donation of land five
dictate the park area being named
(5) A few of the cities have adopted a policy which allows for a
pledge of 'x' amount of dollars over 'x' amount of years for
park development to qualify an individual and/or organization
to attach their name to this park.
I have explored this matter with the Planning Department and have
done some minimal research of literature and the above seem to be the
general and appropriate guidelines when naming park areas.
