RES 1979-54 - 00006713RESOLUTION NO. 54 -1979
A RESOLUTION IN OPPOSITION TO SENATE FILE NO. 513 AND
HOUSE FILE NO. 490
WHEREAS, The sale of strong beer in the State of Minnesota is restricted
to those outlets holding intoxicating liquor licenses, and
WHEREAS, This restriction has tended to help regulate the sale of strong
beer within the State of Minnesota, and
WHEREAS, This control would be greatly reduced if each service station,
grocery store, drug store, and other places of business that is now permitted
to sell 3.2% beer will be permitted to sell strong beer, and
WHEREAS, If the sale of strong beer is allowed at all those retail
establishments now selling 3.2% beer, the next logical sequence of events will
be that pressure will be exerted on the State Legislature for authorization
to sell wine at these same stores, and
WHEREAS, It is desirable from a public policy standpoint to regulate
and control the method of dispensing strong beer,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Council of the City of Fridley
hereby goes on record as being opposed to Senate File No. 513 and House File
No. 490, the seven percent beer bills.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FRIDLEY THIS 9TH DAY OF
APRIL, 1979.
