BILL 5200 FOR ELIMINATION OF AN ADMINISTRATIVE COURT WITHIN
THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT FOR
ZONING AND LAND USE DECISION REVIEW
WHEREAS, a bill entitled Fair Housing Amendments of 1980, H.R. 5200 to be
voted on in the U.S. House of Representatives would authorize federal review
of local zoning decisions; and
WHEREAS, as a municipality we strongly believe in local government rights and
that the City of Fridley shall have full power to deal with all matters of
municipal concern and have complete self - government in harmony with and
subject to the U.S. Constitution and laws of the State of Minnesota; and
WHEREAS, the adoption of H.R. 5200 would put the Federal Government directly
in city affairs through a created Administrative Court within the U.S.
Department of Housing and Urban Development which would impose their
regulations in discriminatory complaints on local zoning and land use
practices.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FRIDLEY,
MINNESOTA, supports the Sensenbrenner- Volkmer Amendment to H.R. 5200 which
would eliminate the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Court
and the opportunity for local zoning decision review by HUD.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FRIDLEY THIS 5TH DAY
OF MAY, 1980.
