A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE COUNTY OF ANOKA TO EXPEDITE
THE RUXAMTION OF THE BANFILL TAVERN/LOM HOUSE
WHEREAS, the Banfill Tavern /Locke House is a building of extraordinary
historical value located in the City of Fridley in Anoka County; and
WHEREAS, the Banfill Tavern /Locke House has been entered in the federal
register of historical buildings; and
WHEREAS, the Banfill Tavern /Locke House is in need of considerable renovation
and stands vacant subject to the ravages of weather and the danger of
vandalism; and
WHEREAS, the County's current renovation schedule extends over a period of
from three to ten years; and
WHEREAS, five alternatives for a living use of the building have been put
forward in a memorandum from the Fridley Human Resources Commission to the
Fridley City Council dated November 1, 1984, to wit:
1. Accelerate the County's restoration schedule and provide funding for
maintenance.
2. Sell or lease the property to a private party.
3. Secure grants frcen the Minnesota Historical Society.
4. Creation of a private foundation.
5. Sell the house to the Minnesota State Historical Society.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Fridley
that the City of Fridley urge the County of Anoka to give serious
consideration to the above - mentioned alternatives and take action to expedite
the renovation of the Banfill Tavern/Locke House and provide a continuing use
for the building.
