RES 1985-18 - 00005075RESCLUTION NO. 18 - 1985
WHEREAS, the City of Fridley has maintained a high quality election process
over the fast several years, and
' WHEREAS, Anoka County has served as the tabulating center for ballot counting
for the past several years, and
WHEREAS, the Anoka County cities have experienced significant population
growth resulting in an increase in registered voters, and
WHEREAS, many concerns have been expressed by the City Clerks and head
election judges relative to the counting process at Anoka County, and
WHEREAS, the County Auditor's office has made concerted efforts to resolve the
procedure problems, and
WHEREAS, the cities of Anoka County have made large investments in the Punch
Card Voting Equipment and are desirous to retain this process, and
WHEREAS, it has been determined that independent ballot counting by individual
cities would remedy this problem in the most cost efficient method.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Fridley
authorizes and directs the City Clerk to work with the County and the other
cities in Anoka County to develop a procedure for counting ballots at their
individual City Hall.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk be authorized to pursue a joint
' powers agreement with other cities within Anoka County for this purpose.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk be authorized to obtain cost
estimates for equipment needed to count ballots on the Punch Card System.
