RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PREPARATION OF PLANS AND
SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE EXPANSION AND RENOVATION OF THE
CIVIC CENTER OFFICE AND PARKING FACILITIES
WHEREAS, the existing Civic Center facility is 20 years old and has never had
any major renovation; and
WHEREAS, the original heating, ventilation, air conditioning equipment and the
entire roof need replacement; and
WHEREAS, the Fire Department area is over 35 years old and requires extensive
mechanical and electrical retrofitting; and
WHEREAS, there is a growing requirement for space for civic and community
activities in the Civic Center; and
WHEREAS, the more intensive development of the Fridley Plaza area has created
a need for additional parking; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has retained the services of the following
consultants to identify the Civic Center needs for the 1990's and beyond:
' Boarman and Associates - Architects
The Bottom Line - Records Retention
Management Advisors, Inc. - Computing Services
Electronic Interiors - Audio/Visual Requirements; and
WHEREAS, the City has already approved a renovation and expansion of the
Police Department; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has budgeted and set aside funds over the last ten
years for renovation and updating of equipment; and
WHEREAS, the Fridley HRA has identified a need for additional parking at the
Civic Center: and
WHEREAS, the Fridley HRA has agreed to participate in the expansion of Civic
Center parking facilities; and
WHEREAS, it has been found most economical to complete both the building
expansion and parking ramp construction at the same time.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Fridley,
Minnesota, that Boarman and Associates Architects be directed to complete
plans and specifications for the expansion and renovation of the Civic Center
office and parking facilities, incorporating records retention,
telecommunications, computer and audio /visual studies in the plan; and

' BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the designated City and HRA monies previously set
aside to fund this work be used for these improvements; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Boarman Associates proceed immediately to minimize
disruptions and achieve the most favorable bids for the renovation of the
Civic Center offices with parking facilities.
