RESOLUTION NO. 37 - 1989
RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF CHILDREN'S AGENDA
WHEREAS, children are our most precious resource and deserve to be our most
urgent priority; and
WHEREAS, social and economic changes, including the increase in mothers working
out of financial necessity, and the number of children living in poverty, have
created a crisis in the care of our children; and
WHEREAS, this crisis has been compounded by the lack of affordable, quality day
care, lack of health insurance and lack of family support services; and
WHEREAS, the City of Fridley has a stake in seeing that our children receive the
care they need, and become productive and contributing members of our community;
and
WHEREAS, the Children's Agenda as proposed by the Perpich- Johnson administration
is an important first step in Minnesota's response to the crisis in our families;
and
WHEREAS, the Children's Agenda includes increased funding for child care, for
Head Start, for Early Childhood Family Education, for physical and mental health
services for children, for family and parenting education and for drop -out
prevention.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this council urges the Minnesota Legislature
to support and vote for passage of the Children's Agenda.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to members
of our local legislative delegation and to the offices of Governor Rudy Perpich
and Lt. Governor Marlene Johnson.
