THE CITY CHARTER, ORDINANCE NO. 919
' WHEREAS, the City of Fridley has received Referendum Petition No. 6 - 1989 and
Addendum Petition No. 7 - 1989 calling for a vote on the term of office for
Mayor and Councilmembess; and
WHEREAS, the Council desires to place the question on the ballot for a special
election on July 18, 1989; and
WHEREAS, the City Clerk is authorized and directed to cause printed ballots to
be prepared for the use in said election in which the proposition shall be
stated in substantially the following form:
SHALL THE FRIDLEY CITY CHARTER BE AMENDED TO HOLD CITY ELECTIONS
EVERY TWO (2) YEARS, CONCURRENT WITH STATE GENERAL ELECTIONS,
INSTEAD OF EVERY YEAR; AND SHALL, THE TERMS OF OFFICE OF THE MAYOR
AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS BECOME FOM (4) YEARS C g4ENCING IN 1991
TO COMPLY WITH THE ABOVE ELECTION SCHEDULE, INSTEAD OF THE CURRENT
THREE (3) YEAR TERMS; AND SHALL THE TERMS OF OFFICE OF THE MAYOR
AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS BE STAGGERED SO THAT NO MORE THAN THREE
(3) ARE ELECTED IN ANY YEAR.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the City Clerk shall cause notice of said
election to be given by publication in the official newspaper of the city for
at least three weeks prior to said election and by posting said notice in at
least one public place in each voting precinct in the city at least fifteen days
' prior to said election. The election shall be held at the usual voting places
for the state general election and as set forth in Exhibit "A" attached to this
resolution, and said election shall be held and conducted in accordance with
statutes of the State of Minnesota applicable to City elections and the
Provisions of the Hone Rule charter. The Council shall meet on July 24, 1989
as required by law for the purpose of canvassing said election and declaring
the results thereof.

CITY CHARTER, ORDINANCE NO. 919
Notice is hereby given that a Special Election in the City of Fridley,
Minnesota, will be held July 18, 1989, for the purpose of submitting the voters
of the City the following proposition:
SHALL THE FRIDLEY CITY CHARTER BE AMENDED TO HOLD CITY ELECTIONS EVERY TWO (2)
YEARS, CONCURRENT WITH STATE GENERAL ELECTIONS, INSTEAD OF EVERY YEAR; AND SNAIL
THE TERMS OF OFFICE OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS BECOME FOUR (4) YEARS
COMMENCING IN 1991 TO COMPLY WITH THE ABOVE ELECTION SCHEDULE, INSTEAD OF THE
CURRENT THREE (3) YEAR TERMS; AND SEALS, THE TERMS OF OFFICE OF THE MAYOR AND
CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS BE STAGGERED SO THAT NO MORE THAN THREE (3) ARE ELECTED IN
