Pay Equity Compliance Report
January 29, 1996
According to state law, the City of Fridley is required to report on its compliance
with the Minnesota Local Government Pay Equity Act. The report is on the status
of City employees effective December 31, 1995, and it is due on January 31, 1996.
There are no substantive problems with the report. The City of Fridley complies
with all the regulations promulgated by the Department of Employee Relations.
There is, however, a technical problem in that the report must be submitted to the
City Council, approved and signed by the Mayor prior to being filed. As I
understand it, there is a$100 penalty for each day that the report is late.
I regret the oversight in not having this report ready by the January 22 meeting of
the City Council. There were some delays m preparing it because of the transition
from Susan Irber to Lisa McConnell. The positive side is that Lisa has an extensive
background in preparation of these reports and did an ertremely thorough review
of our classification and compensation system while preparing the Pay Equity
Compliane Report. I am at fault for not realizing until too late that the report had
to be ready in time for the January 22, 1996 City Council meeting.
I respectfully request that you present this for approval at a special meeting of the
City Council to be held today, January 29, 1996. All it requires is a motion to
approve.
WCH/jb
