AGENDA ITEM
CANVASS BOARD MEETING OF
NOVEMBER 14, 2005
WILLIAM W. BURNS, CITY MANAGER
RICHARD D. PRIBYL, FINANCE DIRECTOR
DEBRA A. SKOGEN, CITY CLERK
SUBJECT: CANVASS REPORT OF SPECIAL M[TNICIPAL ELECTION
NOVEMBER 8, 2005
DATE: November 10, 2005
A special municipal election was held on Tuesday, November 8, 2005, for one ballot question to amend
the Fridley Charter pertaining to utility rates. Attachment 1 is the Statement of Canvass for this election.
State Law states that the City Council must canvass the results within 7 days of the election. I have
included the total number of ballots cast in the City for this election, the total number of votes for each
candidate and ballot question (which includes over-votes, under-votes and write-ins where applicable), a
true copy of the ballot, and the names of the election judges as required.
There were a total number of 15,669 registered voters at 7:00 a.m. and 148 Election Day registrations for
a total number of 15,817 registered voters. 4,326 registered voters cast a ballot in the City thereby
giving the City an average voter turnout of 27%. Ward 1, Precinct 2 had the highest voter turnout with
42% and Ward 3 Precinct 1 had the lowest voter turnout with 11%.
The Charter amendment ballot question needed 51% of the voters voting to pass the amendment. Of
those voting, 1,687 voted yes, 2,595 voted no, 41 cast blank ballots and 3 voters over-voted by filling in
both the yes and no ovals on the question.
Staff recommends a motion accepting and certifying the results of the election.
