RES 2011-21 - 14805RESOLUTION NO. 2011 - 21 RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE CHANGES AND IMPROVEMENTS TO LOCKE PARK BEING PROPOSED BY ANOKA COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT WHEREAS, Locke Park is a city of Fridley Park that for many years has served as a popular picnic and recreational destination for all residents of Anoka County, and WHEREAS, the regional trail that runs through Locke Park is one of the most heavily used trails in the metropolitan twin cities area, and WHEREAS, Anoka County has operated and maintained Locke Park for the past thirty years under a joint powers agreement signed in 1980, and WHEREAS, Anoka County has done a good job taking care of the Locke Park facilities and made some excellent improvements to the park through the years, and WHEREAS, the original roads and parking surfaces in Locke Park are now badly in need of total replacement, and WHEREAS, the improvements to the roads, parking lots, regional trail and dog park in Locke Park as proposed by Anoka County Parks will serve area residents well for many years to come, and WHEREAS, Anoka County Parks has been awarded an $850,000 grant from the Metropolitan Council regional parks system capital improvements program to make the needed improvements in Locke Park, and WHEREAS, the joint powers agreement authorizes Anoka County to make capital improvements to Locke Park with the approval of the Fridley City Council, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Fridley City Council supports the changes and improvements to Locke Park being proposed by the Anoka County Parks and Recreation Department. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Fridley gives approval to Anoka County to proceed with the improvements to Locke Park commencing work in the spring of 2011.
