The house sustained major damage to the roof, interior and exterior wails. The damage is severe enough to deem the structure a hazard. MN Rule 1311.0206 States in part "Any structure that constitutes a hazard to safety or health, or public welfare by reason of disaster or damage, shall be considered unsafe. Atl unsafe buildings shall be declared a pubiic nuisance and shall be abated by repair or demolition as referenced in the MN Statutes Section 463.15 to 463.26." The above noted building is a hazardous structure and will be posted as a hazardous buildin� per MN Statute 463.17. You will have 20 days from the date of this letter to respond in writing if you are going to repair or demolish the structure. If you are to repair the structure, plans will be required prior to a building permit being issued. If the structure will be demolished, proper permits will also need to be issued. If you fail to respond to this letter, the City of Fridley will proceed with the demolition per State Statutes 463.151. Date of Fire: April 10, 2010; 1004 hours Other pertinent details: The residence involved in this fire is on the corner of Riverview Terrace, N.E. and Alden Way, N.E. The fire began in the attached garage on the west end of the home and is believed to have been caused by utilizing a propane barbecue grill inside the garage. Neighbors alerted the resident that the garage was on fire. A wedding celebration was underway in the residence at the time of the fire. It is reported that approximately 20 guests and family members were gathered in the home when the fire began. Fortunately, there were no injuries to guests, family members or firefighters who battled the fire. Smoke from the fire was visible from the Minneapolis - St. Paul International Airport. The house is believed to be a total loss along with four vehicles, one in the garage and three belonging to guests parked adjacent to the garage. Another home, located at 6211 Riverview Terrace, N.E., also received some damage from radiar�t heat, smoke and embers from the Alden Way fire. The American Red Cross assisted the three adults and finro children living there with emergency lodging. Residents in the home on Riverview Terrace were able to return to their home following inspection and air monitoring tasks performed by departrnent personnel. All utilities, including natural gas, electricity, City water and cable television were disconnected or terminated during the fire. The Council further orders that unless such corrective action is taken or an answer is served upon the City of Fridley and filed in the office of the clerk of District Court of Anoka County, Minnesota within 20 days from the date of the service of this order, a motion for summary enforcement of this Court will be made to the District Court of Anoka County. Enforcement of this order shall include, in the City's discretion, the option of razing the structure. The Council orders that all personal property or fixtures that may unreasonably interfere with the razing and removal of the building shall be removed within 20 days, and if not so removed by the owner, and the City then determines to raze the structure, the City of Fridley may remove and sell such personal property or fixtures at public auction in accordance with law. 3. The Council further orders that if the City is compelled to take any corrective action herein, all necessary costs expended by the City will be assessed against the real estate concerned and collected in accordance with Minnesota Statutes, Section 463.22.
