Upou a request fram the Fiz� I?epattmsnt c�r BuildiAg Ufficial
r�de an inapecttoa of ya�sr house at 7874 Ald�n Way. This was ccrttcerning
th+� reeent fire rssulting from heat being traas�itted throug�:the tsack of
the fireglace.
IC wae determined that tlaere was an iasufficient amount af
materiel betwe�en the fireplace and the adjac�ttt co�nbustable mat�rial to
effec�ively disapate the heat from the fira. In otder to correct the
prvbl�m you must:
1. Break out the present fire brick liaing.
2. Bask glaster the fireplace case wall.
3. In8tsil 2" crent c�on ttrick.
4. A�place the fire brick lining.
S. 8urround the back and eide of the fire�l8ce with 1/4"
a�pestos hard board. Thie �st be bet�eaa the well aad the
bsick and e,xtend 8" above aud helc�r the acL�ea� fixe chamber.
This wi,21 reduce the depth of the fire bax fro� 23" to approximately
2Q" witieb !s within the code requiremeats. Plea$e call for an inspectian

point six (6) inches below the floor line of the basement or th� cellar to the
average heights of the upper surface or to the average height of the roof surf.ace
of fihe main gable of a pitched roof.
For repairs or alterations to an existinc} structure, the fee shall be at the rate
of $3.00 ner each five hundred dollars ($500.00) or fraction thereof in the cost
of all proposed work.
In no case shall the fee charged for any permit as set forth in Section 2 be less
than �7.50 plus $.50 state surcharge.

of any building or structure, or for any addition to any existing building or structure,
ar for any alteration or repairs to any,existing building or structure, upon application
therefore, require the payment by the applicant for such permit of fees to the amount
herein below set forth and in the manner herein provided to-wit: -

For the purpose of computing fees �for building permits, the cubical contents of any
building or addition, is determined by multiplying the ground area covered from a
point six (6) inches below the floor line of the basement or the cellar to the
average heights of the upper surface or to the average height of the roof surface
of the main gaYile of a pitched roof.
For repairs or alterations to an existing structure, the fee shall be at the rate
of $3.00 �ier each five hundred dollars ($500.00) or fraction thereof in the cost
of all proposed work.
In�no case shall the fee charged for any permit as set forth in Sectivn 2 be less,
than $7.50 plus $.50 state surcharge.

NOTE: Permits for cons�ruction will be issued a mini.miva of 24 hours from the time
of application to allow for proper review of the proposed structure and of the
construction site.
A Certificate of- Survey of the lot, showing the �ocation of the foundation once it
has been constructed will be required before proceeding with the framing.

As indica.ted, two (2) skiffiners approved by the National Sanitation
Foundation will be provided. '
As�indicated, five (5) inlets of approved design for fresh and/or
repurified water will be provided.
As indicated, a main drain of approved construction will be provided.
The filter and pump shall be approved by the N.S.F. and be of
sufficient capacity to provide 8 IDlnimi�m turnoeer of at least trao (2)
times in 24 hours. This department recoimmends a turnover rate of
6-8 hours.
A deck of at least three (3) feet wide, measu�ed from the pool water's
edge, shall be provided which extends,ca�npletely around all private
residential pools. Above gro�d private residential pools may be
provided with decking of a minimum size of 4 feet by 4 feet at pool
entzy points and provided that such decking has the approval of the

�ie diving area will be acceptable provided there is no overhead
obstruction.
Fenci� or other effectine means including but not limited to walls
or buildings, acceptable to the City, shall be provided to positively
cantrol all access to public and private residential swia�ning poals.
Fencing shall meet the following criteria:
(a) The fencing shall prevent the entrance of children and be without
hand or foot holds that would enable a person to cli.mb over it.
(j�) The fenci.ng shall be at least 6 feet high and entrances shall be
equipped with self-closing and self-latching gates capable of
being locked. '
(c) Self-closing and self-latching devices shall be placed at the top
of the gate or othexwise inaccessible to sma11 children.
(d) The opening betraeen the bottom of the fence and the ground o�
other surface shall be not more than four inches.

8. An automatic chlorinator should be proeided with a suitable test ki.t.
9. All electrical and pltnnbing installa�.ions shall be inspected and
approved by the City Inspection Department.
10. All electrical lines must be 10-20 feet or mnre away fraa the pool
surface.
11. The pool fill spout must be a3x gapped or protected by a vacuum
breaker.
12. Suitable safety equipment to ir�lude but �t limited tp a ri.ng buoy
and rope that is l� times the pool diameter, and shepherds crook pole
must be provided and maintained with the pool at all ti.mes.
Furthezmore, these and any other requirements must meet the provisions of
the Fridley City Code, Section 115, Sw���� Pools. The building pelmit
is approved contingent on final inspections and approval by the City.

SECTION 2. The Inspector of Buildings shall, before issuing permits for the erection
of any building or structure, or for any addition to any existing building or structure,
or for any alteration or repairs to any existing building or structure, upon application
therefore, require the payment by the applicant for such permit of fees to the amount
herein below set forth and in the manner herein provided to-wit:

For the purpose of computing fees for building permits, the cubical contents of any
building or addition, is determined by multiplying the ground area covered from a
point six (6) inches below the floor line of the basement or the cellar to the
average heights of the upper surface or to the average height of the roof suzface
of the�main gable of a pitched roof.
For repairs or alterations to an existing structure, the fee shall be at the rate
of $3.00 �ier each five hundred dollars ($500.00) or fraction thereof.in the cost
of all proposed work.
In�no case shall the fee charged for any permit as set forth in Section 2 be less
than $7.50 plus $.50 sta.te surchaxge.
VERIFICATIO� OF FOUNDATION
NOTE:� �Permits for construction will be issued a minimimm of 24 hours from the time
of application to allow for proper review of the pro,posed structure and of the
construction site.
A Certificate of Survey of the lot, showing the location of the foundation once it
has been constructed will be required before proceediiig with the frami.ng.

Application €or a Certificate of Occupancy shall be made ten (10) days prior to the
use or occupancy of any structure for which a building permit has been issued; and
said structure shall not be used or occupied until a Certificate of Occupancy has
been issued.

Dear Mr. Kunzman:
A mechanical permit was issued on May 7, 1999 for the property located at
7874 Alden Way NE for an air conditioning unit. According to Section 305(a) of
the 1991 Uniform Mechanical Code a final inspection shall be performed on the
mechanical system. As of this date no inspection has been called for.
You will be given thirty (30) days from receipt of this notice to respond. If we do
not hear from you, we will expire the permit and any inspections on this

Dear Mr. Kunzman:
A plumbing permit was issued on June 22, 1999, for the above noted address,
to install three new fixtures. According to section 4715.2800 of the State
Plumbing Code, a final inspection shall be conducted on the plumbing authorized
by this permit. As of this date no inspection has been called for.
You will be given thirty (30) days from receipt of this notice to respond. If we do
not he,ar from you, we will expire the permit and any inspections on this
installation will require a new permit.
