We have recently provided inspec�ion and testing on the above
mentioned property at the request of the lot owner, Mr. Steve
Becchetti, A layer of black sanc(y peat approxim�tely 2' thick was
encountered along the north footing line of the house. This material
is very similar to tf�e black sands previously encountered, but does
contain a higher percentage of organic material. We recommend that
this black sandy peat be removed from this footing line and a com-
pacted granular fill with 1:1 side slopes be placed to support�the
footing. The extent of this material along the east and west foot-
ing lines of the house and garage has not been accurately determined.
We recommend excavation along these footings beginning at the north
house footing and continuing until the black sandy peat is no longer
encountered and construction of a granular fill. Any other footings
such as bearing wall or fireplace footings which are adjacent to
the north footing line of tf�e house sho.uld also be excavated to
remove any black sandy peato
A black sand was also encountered in the footing and floor
slab areas. The material is very granular in nature and if com-
pacted will provide adequate support for footings and floor slab's.
Therefore, we recommend that this entire excavation be compacted
prior to placing any footings, and the floor area be similarly
'compacted prior to placing the floor.
We have indicated to Mr. Becchetti that we would like to
inspect the north footing line after it is excavated to examine
the extent of the black sandy peat.
