Dear Mr. Thayer: This letter is to make clear this departments requirements .for the swimming pool construction at the above address. , 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. � 7. 8. 9. As indicated, three (3) skimmers approved by the National Sanitati.on Foundation;will be provided. As indicated, one (1) inlet of approved design for fresh and/or repurified water will be provided. As indicated, a main drain of approved construction will be provided. The filter and pump shall b e approved by the N.S.F. and be of sufficient capacity to provide a minimum turnover of at least two (2) times in 24 hours. This department recommends a turnover rate of 6 - 8 hours. A deck of at least three (3) feet wide, measured from the pool water edge, shall beprovided which extends completely around all private residential pools. Above ground private residential pools may be pravided with decking of a minimum size of 4 feet by 4 feet at pool entry points and provided that such decking has the approval of the City. The diving area will be acceptable provided there is no overhead obstruction. Fencing or other effective means including but not limited to walls or buildi.ngs, acceptable to the City, shall be provided to positively controT all access to public and private residential swia¢aing pools. Fencing shall meet the following criteria: (a) T'he fencing shall prevent the entrance of children and be Wi.�thout hand or foot liolds that would enable a person to climb over it. (b) The fencing shall be at least 6 feet high and entrances shall be equipped with self-closing and self-latching gates capable of being locked. (c) Self-closing and self-latching devices shall be placed at the top of the gate or otherwise inaccessible to small children. (d) The opening between the bottom of the fence and the ground or other surface shall be not more than four inches. An autoinatic chlorinator should be provided with a suitable test kit. All electrical and plumbing installations shall be inspected and approved by the City Inspection Department. t �� Mr. S. E. Thayer July 17, 1978 Page 2 10. All electrical lines must be great.er than 15 feet away from the pool surface. An alternati.ve is to bury said lines. 11. The pool fill spout must be air-gapped or protected by a vacuum breaker. 12. Suitable safety equipment to include but not limited to a ring buoy and rope that is 1� times the pool diameter, and shepherds craok pole must be provided and mai.ntained with the pool at all times. Furthermore, these and any other requizements must meet the provisions of the Fridley City Code, Section 115, Swiinming Pools. Specifically, we have three 8-foot, triple glazed, patio doors that were installed overhanging tne footings by 3-1/4", resultinc� in a gradual collapse of the base on each door. Tne inaker of these doors, Weathershield, was ca].led out to repair the rallers on one door which were jammed on installatiori. I was led to believe that they would not further warrant these doors due to faulty installation. The information was relayed to the prime contractor, Erco, Inc., who in turn advised the sub-contractor, a D. Erickson. No contact has been made during the ensuing months to me by this firm. Due to the considerable amount o£ money invested in the footings and these doors, I do not relish watching them deterio=ate to the �oint of falling into the yard tYiis winter. At the same time, I do not relisn recalling D. Erickson to repair this fault, as they have canvinced me they have no �nterest. I would liice �to have this situation rectifiec: b�r; competent construction people against a legal judgement to bill said cost ;�ack to D. Erickson.
