McPhee MEMO DATE: Ma.y 12, 1970 RE: Plan Review of the Anoka County Daytime Activities Center_ ,w; I have reviewed the plans and specifications. What is a day- time activities center? This appears to be basic residential construction. How will the food service be used? Again, the kitchen is equipped as a private home. Should it meet health department requirements? What about garbage and refuse disposal? I guess I have no concept of a daytime activities center. What is the age group? c/ %' : % HARVEY J. I have reviewed the plans and specifications dated November 16, 1970 with attached addendum kl and have the following comments: 1. All bathrooms should have ceramic tile floors and wainscotting. 2. What about 180°F. rinse water for the dishwasher? I find no specifications on the dishwasher but assume it is a domestic. These facilities should provide N.S.F. approved equipment for dishwashing including the refrigerator. 3. I assume the bubbler on the classroom sink is a drinking fountain. I prefer to see separate drinking fountains. The location of drinking equipment on any type of sink is poor. 4. Do they still have urinals with overhead tanks? I suppose this is for automatic flushing. . 5. What are the plans for garbage and refuse disposal? I don't want this to be an afterthought and have problems.. 6. All counter tops with splashbacks should have a coved joint between the top and splashback. G if ` HARVEY J. Minneapolis, Minn. 55429 Re: Anoka County Day Activity Center, Fridley, Minnesota Gentlemen: Mr. Clarence Belisle, Building Inspector for the City of Fridley, in a letter addressed to us and dated June 9, 1972, required that the vertical dimensions between the front entrance landing and the outside concrete stoop be reduced from Che present 5'" to a maximum of 2" to conform to U.B.C. Sec. 3303 (h). This has been discussed with Charlie Bench of your office. On June 21, I met Dick Kait at the site to discuss this question. We felt, to conform with the original drawings, that if the elevation of the stoop is to be raised, the sidewalk should be raised with it. On June 28, at my request, Hank Muhich of the Anoka County Administrator's Office, , met with'Barney Rabe and me at the site to discuss this further. The three of us agreed, after considering all aspects of the situation, the best solution is to raise the stoop by 3?" at the doorway edge and by 2" at the sidewalk edge. This would give a 2" step at the door and a 6z" step to the sidewalk. The new slab topping should be bonded to the existing slab and grooved and caulked at the roof support posts.
