RE: Sttuctural Review for Shear in Walls of Hollihan Addition

Per our recent conversations and your emaileci drawings for the Hollihan Addition project, I
perFormed a wind load analysis and shear capacity review for the 8'-0" and 19'-0" wa11s of the
new 4 season porch.
Per your drawings, this porch addition is framed into the roof of the gazage on one side aaid the
house on another. By observation the wind sheaz concerns will not be an issue; however, I did
perforna calculations. I found that the 90 miles per hour design wind load produces a horizontal
shear load along the 19 foot wa11 will require a minimum nailing patter of l�i at 12 inches o.c.
around the o�nings and the 8 foot wall will require a minimum of l Od at 6 inch�s o.c. around
the opeaings.
Per our phone conversation this morning, you indicated that you are using 16d nails and have a
standard nailing pattern of 6 inch o.c. at openings and 8 inch o.c. in the sheathing plane. This is
very adequate to handle t�e shear loads in the wall. Please contact me with any additional
