wide bracing se�ments near the corners oEbuildings and at pre-

IRC, enforcement of this requirement is becoming widespread.
The code also requires a 48-inch bracing wall n�t to garage open-
ings. But many home des-igns show wall segments adjacent co the
gaiage opening rhat are as natrow as 16 inches.
Sheath the house in �lywoad or OSB and use APAs Narraw Wall Bracing Method. Builders can
reduce garage wall braang width and sall provide bracing pedormance equivalent to [he prescrip-
� uve code requiremer�ts. Note that this method is limited to garage bracing only. For wall bracing as
narrow as 24 inches on any scory of a 3�tory house, refer to the conanuously sheathed method in
the IRC (R602.10.5).
