The particular lot in question had been stripped of organic soils during the original site grading, and gray-black sand excavated from the pond was placed 7' - 8' deep up to the present grade. Six hand auger holes were made by myself from the footing grade (previously excavated) down to natural soils in both the house and ,. garage area. No organic soils was found. The fill appeared quite " uniform and compact in nature with few exceptions, and varied from 3.5' below footing in the southwest to 6' in the northeast. A density test was performed which indicated the existing fill was at 86X of modified proctor at about 1' below footing grade. I recommended to the masonry foreman on site that the area within the footing forms be compacted with a vibratory compactor making three passes, and that two ��4 reinforcement bars be placed in all footings.
