The house was a split leveY type with the deepest basement on the east side. A 1.0'+ layer of black organic topsoil with substantial amount� of wood on"tbp was noted at about 1' below the low portion of the basement. Prior to our examination a stump had been removed from the low portion as well. The stump hole contained standing water approximately 1' below grade. A thin clay layer under the topsoil was also noted. Hand auger holes in the higher (2-3'), portion of the excavation on the west also indicated the sarne topsoil layer with wood. The overlying fill was primarily Burlington Northern sand-rock material. We recommended removal and stockpiling of the fill, removal of the black organic soils and backfill with the fill material. During construction by Jerry Belair the water table appeared to recede, although a great deal of pumping from the equipment vibration was evident. The excavation was cleaned out and widened sufficiently to allow 1:1 slopes up to the footing level. Backfill was placed and compacted. ' Two densities were taken on Apri1 21, one in the lower portion of the basement, and one on the higher portion. The resu�lts were 94 and 97% of modified Proctor density respectively. Two hand auger holes were also placed in the lower portion to check for water table after construction. Near the back or south edge of the basement, no water was apparent the next day, April 22 at 3.5'. However near the front footing line water was standing about 2' below basement floor grade. Widen out the front footing to 24". 2. Use Z-#4 reinforcement bars in all footings. 3. Place subdrains around lower footings. 4. Maintain the above 2' from the perched water table to the basement floor grade. During the above inspections we also checked the cormnon rear lot line grades of Lot 3 and Lot 6 Block 3. Mr. 8rickner called and was informed he should raise his rear lot corners (Lot 6) up to where 1.5' of fall was available out to Camelot.
