Attn: Adam Denny 1922 First Ave. South, Suite 240 Anoka, MN 55303 Re: Structural Inspection — Damaged Roof Truss 6500 Channel Road, Fridley, MN Project Number: 111 103 Dear Mr. Denny: On October 25, 2011, I inspected a damaged truss at the residence at 6500 Channel Road in Fridley, MN. In particular, i was asked to inspect a scissor truss that had water damage. About a fourth of the truss was visible at the time of my inspection. A portion of the ceiling framing was removed, and a portion of the roof sheathing was removed, so I was able to view the truss from above and below. At the worst part of the truss, about I" of the top of the top chord and Yz" of the bottom of the top chord was rotten. About '/z" of the top and bottom of the bottom chord was rotten. The rest of the truss member was in satisfactory condition. Since there is enough of good wood to fasten to, I recommend fastening plywood to each side of the damaged truss with 2 rows of 8d nails spaced 8" o.c. for the top and bottom chord, and any web members (the web members were not visible at the time of my inspection. Care should be taken to install the nails into the non-rotten portion of the truss members. Please see the attached sketches detailing the required reinforcement. Since only a portion of the truss was exposed, it was unclear if the entire truss has water damage, or just a portion. If the North half of the truss is not damaged, the plywood can stop 2'-0" past the peak. If any of the North side of the truss is damaged, the entire truss should be reinforced.
