RDGARDIlG: Parking Situation at 6551 and 6571 1 Ro,ad N.E.
P' Your quest, I have investigated the parking situation at the abave
' PY'tY• As Y recall, the City Manager requested the parking
lot be expanded and restriped to increase the number of parking stalls
available.
lY. e of street parkir lot for the two aparrit oomplexes has 39
sFaces• By using 9' x 18' stalls, this niunber could be increased to a
maxuman of 49 spaces. This, however, would not be reconended due to the
Po9raPhical characteristics of the lard. The parking lot contains large
Oak trees which disrupt the configuration of the parking stalls. In my
apini, the minunn ramber of parking spaces which cauld be available is 45.
e PtY owrer did decide to restripe his parking lot, the following
variances would be reeded: •
1• e the required parking stall size fram 10'x 18' to 9' x 18'.
2• Rece the hardsurface setback from a side lot line from 5 feet to 0
feet. •
3. Reduce the hardsurface setback frnai a building fran 5 feet to 0 feet.
4. Reduce the required rnunber of parking stalls from 47 to 45.
I have been unable to contact the property owner/manager about this

As Pez' Your raquest, I have exaed the parking situatiQn for the apart►ent
buildings at 6551 and 6571 qanne7. Raad.
Appax'ently, the owraers of the ccplex were *,;,- to
bring the parking lot
uP ode in 1977• Whn the street was inroved at that time, 39 parking
stalls were installed whi.c.h cxanplies to t-he current rking requireent of 34
stalls. This street impravement was not intended to provide permanent
a¢i street prking.
This item was cli.scussed with Nlark gur.ch Aist City Enm*r. He stated
that ttlis stxeet was ][nt desiged foZ' rranrnt Castxeet parkin9, therefore,
the no parking sis sha11 stay as is. Permanent on-street parking would
also interfere with the City's snow plwing operations. However, when the
str'eet was iagraved in 1977, the owrer was given an alternative which would
reduce the Far'kinJ Problen.
A ten foot parking lane could be instal, led aloq the front of the complexes.
A segrate agreFment would bave to be executed whereby the owner would assane
all costs i.nvolved. Because there is insufficient right of ways to irstall a
parking la=e, a sev foot strip of frontae would have to be dedicated to
the City. Snawplawing maintenance would be the responsibility of the
