ing or struceure, or for any alterations or repaira to any existing building or

VERIFICATION OF FOUNDATION
NOTEt Permits for construction will be issued a minimum of 24 hours from the
time of application, to allow f�r proper review of the proposed structure and
of the construction site.
A Certified Su-rvey of the lot, showing the location of the foundation, once it
has been constructed, will be xequired before proceedin� with the framing.
CERTZFICATE OF OCCUPANCY
Application ,for a Certificate of Occupancy shall be made ten (10) days prior
to the use ox occupancy of any structure for �ahich a building permit has been
issued; and said stxucture shall not be used or occupied until a Certificate
of Occupancy has been issued.

SECTION 2. The Inspector of Buildings shall, before issuing pennits for the erection
of any building or structure, or for any addition to any existing building or structure,

For the purpose of computing fees for building permits, the cubical ccintents of any
building or addition, is determined by multiplying the ground area covered from a
point si.x (6) inches below the floor line of the basement or the cellar to the
average heights of the upper surface or to the average height of the roof surface
of the main gable of a pitched roof.
For repai.rs or alterations to an existing structure, the fee shall be at the rate
of $3.00 �ier each five hundred dollars�($500.00) or fraction thereof in the cost
of all proposed work.
In�no case shall the fee charged for any permit as set forth in Section 2 be less
than $7.50 plu's $.50 state surcharge. '
_VERIFICATIOV OF FOUNDATIO
NOTE: Permits for construction will be issued a minim�nn of 24 hours from the tune
of application to allow for proper review of the proposed structure and of the
construction site.
A Certificate of Suxvey of the lot, showing the location of the foundation once it
has been constructed will be required before proceeding with the framing.

After having considered your request for a variance of the required
egress window size in a bedroom, and having discussed it with our
Fire Department Official, we are pleased to inform you that we will
accept your window installation as installed.
The main reason for this decision is that you indeed have made your
home much safer by eliminating the old awning (ranch style) windows
you previously had. We do recommend however that you change the
hardware on the C24 window from the split arm operator to the
straight arm operator as this would increase the width of the
opening.

Dear Darrell:
The purpose of this letter is to request a variance from Fridley building
code for bedroom replacement windows with respect to one bedroom in our residence
at 6535 Clover Place NE.
We have recently upgraded the windows in two of our bedrooms by replacing the
original (1958) Andersen awning windows with combinations of Andersen casement and
awning windows with the latest technology (vinyl clad, low-E glass, etc.).
One of our major objectives in replacing windows was to improve egress in both
bedrooms. We sought to accomplish this by installing a single casement Model CW14
window in the west bedroom and a double casement Model C24 window in the east room.
We thought that we understood Fridley code requirements when we ordered these
windows, and that they would be acceptable.
We now understand that the double casement window would not meet Fridley code
requirements for NEW construction, and that the city would like replacement windows
to meet that requirement as well. The critical difference appears to be that the
horizontal opening for our window is about 4 inches less than the 20 inches
specified for NEW construction.
We are very happy with the improved egress which has been accomplished by
replacing awning windows with casement windows. We find that the smaller casement
window easily allows us to exit through either of the openings, and the fully
compliant casement in the front bedroom (near the hydrant) would easily allow a
fully equipped firefighter to step right in.
Considering all the effort we went through to design optimal window
arrangements for those rooms, the great improvement in egress in those rooms, and
the extraordinary efforts necessary to change the situation at this point, we
respectfully request that we be allowed a variance for the east bedroom double
casement window and agree to hold the City of Fridley harmless for any effects
arising from the granting of this variance.
