until the November 12, 1969 meeting,
Seconded by 0'Bannon. Upon a voice vote, all votin aye, the motion carried

3. A REQUEST FOR A VRIANGE OF SECTION 45a24, OF THE FRIDLEY CITY CODE, TO REDIICE
THE SIDEYARD REQIITR FROM 5 FEEr TO 3 FEET. TO PERMIT THE CONSTRIICTION OF
AN ATTACHED GARAGE ONTO E}CISTING DWELLING LOCATID ON I,OT 16 BI,OtK 2 MELODY

CONCERTO CURVE N.E.. FRIDLEY. MINNESOTA.
Mro Paul Amundson was present to present his requesto Mro John Polymeros,

Mr, Amundson pzeaened to the Board a letter written by his niehbor,
Mr, Fred Glany, 7400 Concerto Curve, whicl states that he does not object
to Mr. Amundaon building a garage 3 feet from the proerty lznem
MOTION by 0'Bannon to accept the letter from Mr. Glanye
Seconded by Minish, Upon a voice vote, there bein no nays9 the moion
carried unanimously.
Mr. Polymeros explained to the Board that the garaz will Ue 21 fest by
26 feet, which ia the minimum width fcr a double gar,ge in this case,
as we need room to install three steps going into the houe from the
gara.e.
A survey of the land and pictures taken by the Building Inspector, were
shown to the Boaxd for their review. The aurvey showed Mro Amundson's
house to be 24.01 feet from the lot line and 34.01 feet between structures.
A diacusaion followed on how the a.ra,e was to be joined to the house.
MOTION by 0'Bannon to close the public heaxing.
Seconded by Harri.s. IIpon a voice vote, there bein no nays, the motion
carried una.nimously.
Mr. Harris felt tha,t although the applicant has the concurrance of hia
neihbor, there still should be 15 feet between structures and in this
case there would be only 13 feet.
Mr. Polymeros stated that they could put 58 inch sheetrock on the wall
facing the neighbors houae so they would have a 1 hour iire wall, _

Mr. Minish felt that that a hardship had not been shown as a single garage
could be built in the eame location without askin for a variance, and a
double garae could be built in the back yasd as there was no difficult
terrain to deal with. He also stated he knew that a single garage was not
as desirable as a double garage but since the applicant could stay within
the limita of the City Code by buildin a aingle gara,ge that a hardahip was
not ahown.
Mr. 0'a,nnon was in favor of the variance as the applicant prefera a
double gara.e and the abutting neighbor does not object and there were no
other people present that objected. He also felt tha,t a single arage
was just about useless and that a double garage would increase the value
of this house and also increase the value of the neighborhood.
Cnairma,n Mittelstadt was in favor of the vaxiance if the applicant would
agree to sheetrockin the far end wall along with the ceiling and the
common wall.
MOTION by 0'Bannon to approve the variance for the ?ollowing reasons and
one stipulation:
1. The abutting neighbor does not object e
2, The conatruction of the house does not permit the necessary space
needed to build a double gara.ge.
Stipulation:
1. The gara.$e be sheetrocked with 58 inch sheetrock on the common wall,
ceilin and on the far end wall.
Seconded by Harris. IIpon a voice vote, Miniah voting nay, the motion
passed,
