STEP 1
�termine the placement and height of the deck relative
to any doors it will serve. The deck surface shouid be at
least 1" lower than any doors to prevent rain or snow
from entering the house.
With the deck surface height detennined, and marked
on the side wall, measure down 1�h to compensate for
the thickness of the 2" decking material. This will t� the
height at avhich the top edge of the ledger will be piaced.

Cut the ledger to the length shown (Fig. 6 and
temporarily nail the ledger to the house (F�ig.1), making
certain that it is level and at the correct height
determin�d in Step 1.
If the ledger is being installed over lap siding� 4he siding
should be removed under the ledger to ensure that the
ledger is perpendicu{ar and a secure connection to the
k�ouse can be made.
Use lag bolts to balt the ledger to the house, place the
first bolt 12" in from the end and the remaining l�lts 24"
on center (Fia. 2).

STEP 3
Squaring the deck and determining the post locaiions is
easily accomplished with the use of temporary batter-
boards. Install the stakes for the batterboards at least 1'
outside the two deck comers as shown (Fig. 3).
Level the cross pfeces of the batterboards with the top
of the ledger and with each other by using a line level
and mason's line (Fig. 4) or a carpenter's levei and
straight 2" x 4" (Fig. 5).

STEP 9
The post height is determined by measu�ing the
distance from J•K (Fig. 11) down to the base of the
anchors and deducting the width (7+/a ") of the joists.
STEP 10
Set the posts in the anchor brackets and plumb them
with a level. Nail the flanges of the post anchors to the
posts with 16d galvanized nails.

STEP 11
Cut the two 2" x 8" beam members to the correct length
(Fig. 6). Put the beam members in place, making sure
that the ends are flush with lines A-C and E-F, and tem-
porarily nail them to the 4" x 4" posts (Fig. 13).

Before bolting the beam members, make certain the
beam is level. Using a floor joist, hold one end so the
top of the joist is flush with the top of the watl ledge�
Place the other end on top of the beam and check with a
level. Check the other end of the beam in the same way.
If troth ends are level, bolt the beam to the posts as
shawn (Ftg. 13).

Cut all the joists to the coRect length (Fig. 6). Note that
the two outside joists are 1�h" longe� than the inside
joists.
Nail the two outside joists to the ends of the wall ledger
using 316d galvanized nails in each end. IVail the 2"x8"
header joists to the ends of the two outside jolsts.
Check for squareness by measuring diagonally fram
comer to comer. If both measurements are the sart9e,
your deck is square and the outside jofsts can be nailed
to the beam (Fig 14).

Measure and mark the location of the remalning joists
on the wall ledger and on the header jofst. Space the
joists 2' on center (Fig. 6).
Nail the joist hangers to the wall ledger and set the
joists in place. Nail through the header joists into the
ends of each joist and nail each joist to the two 2"x 8"

Lampe�4's op4ional stair package includes all the
materials needed to build a cleat-type stairway
including the handrail materials as shown above. The
top post for the handrail is included with the railing
packages.

Measure from the ground to the top of your deck to
determine the total rise (Fig. 29�.
STEP 2
Refer to the stair framing chart and find your total rise in
the first cotumn and follow across to the total run. Make
sure you have enough room out from your deck to
accommodate the total run without obstruction.

14' wide deck one set of blocking will also be
needed alon� the 14' side (refer to Fig.19 for the

The stair locations are only a suggestion and can �
moved to any desired locatfon. Make certain, if you
relocate the stairs� that the blocking is aiso moved.

Dear Mr. Nguyen:
A mechanical permit was issued on September 20, 1999 for the installation of a gas
furnace for your address. According to Section 305(a) of the 1991 Uniform Mechanical
Code, a final inspection shall be performed on the mechanical permit. As of this date no
inspection has been called for.
The permit fee that was paid covers the inspector's time to check to make sure the
furnace was installed correctly. We also need to check for the installation of combustion
air, vent and connector sizing.
You will be given thirty (30) days from receipt of this notice to respond. If we do not
hear from you, your permit will expire and any inspections on this installation will require
a new permit.
