please be advised that since July 21, 1988, I have received calls from six
homeow�rs who awn hames in the vacinity of the 53 00 block of Horiz on Drive,
requesting that I inspect their house foundations because of apparent
differencial settlenents. Prior to these calls we had inspected 5 other
fourrlations durir�g 1987 ar�d 1976 that were in this ger�eral ara3.
There appears to be a pattern of things that probably have caused these -
settlanents to occur or are present at each location:
1. The� have all occured durir�g long chy spells (1976, 1987 & 1988) .
2. All have had maturn trees growing in the general vacinity of the failure.
3. Yarrl arrl street settlenent has also occured in fr�nt of those Y�nes that had
maturn trees in the front yard i�ear the failure.
4. All those that have had soil tests done have had a layer of moisture
receptive or active soil at or below the footir�g elevation.
5. All harveowr�ers lrave been advised to contact a soils engineer to test and
report their firrlings ar�d to suggest the method of correction.
6. All of the i�ues were buil t in the mid 1950's.
The cost of repair will deper�d upon the exterit of the failures. We estimate the
cost of such repair to range between a minim�► of $500. �0 to a maximum of
$20, 000. 00 or possibly higher. One h�ne repa i red i n June, 19 87 pa. id a n
estimated $3,000.00 to a contractor to replace the back wall l32 feet) of their
basanent. That repair o�nsisted of trne following: temporarily supporting the
stru�cture on post ar�d timbers; raroving the back foundation wall ar�d footing;
diggir�g down throu�i appnaximately six feet of clay or silt to granular gravel
at three locations (each hole was about 4'x 2' )� pouring each hole full of
concrete; pouri� a rei�orced concrete grade beam aier the top of the new pads
to fonn a r�ew footing; laying up a new block wall t and setting the house back
dQ,vn.
A composit �p is being maintair�ed that shaas the reported dates and addresses
of all reported problens.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Frauly:
The City of Fridley has established a City Code for the purpose of
promoting a pleasant and attractive suburban environment. A recent
inspection of the property at 169 Crown Road revealed that not all
Code requirements are presently being met. Listed below is an item
which does not comply with the City Code:
1. Fridley City Code requires that all vehicles must be currently
licensed/street operable and kept on a hard surface parking
area if they are stored outside. I observed a vehicle (190-
FXS) l�ocated in the driveway which does not fully meet these
requirements.
Your prompt attention in correcting this situation would greatly
assist us in helping make Fridley a better place to live. An
inspection will be conducted on or about April 5, 1993, to
determine compliance.
