SECTION 2. The Inspector of Buildings shall, before issuing permits for the erection
of any,building or structure, or for any addition to an1 existing building or structure,
or for any alteration or repairs to any existing building or structure, upon applicatian
ther�fore, require the payment by the applicant for such permit of fees to the amount
herein below set forth and in the manner herein provided to-wit:
NEW CONSTRUCTION: Single Family Homes and Garages: $4.00/1,000 cubic feet..
PLAN CHECK: 25 percent of building permit fee.
DRIVEWAY DEPRESSION: (Concrete Curb Streets Only) .
Alternate A: Removal and replacement of concrete curb and '
gutter only; Driveway width plus 6 feet x$11.75
Alternate B:'Removal and replacement of concrete curb and
gutter and install a 3 foot wide approach with
6 inch depth; Driveway width plus 6 feet x$15.40

For the purpose of computing fees for building permits, the cubical contents of any
building or addition, is determined by multiplying the ground area covered from a
point six (6) inches below the floor line of the basement or the cellar to the
average heights of the upper surface or to the average height of tne roof surface
of the main galale of a pitched roof .
For repairs o� alterations to an existing structure, the fee shall be at the rate
of $3.00 �ier each five hundred dollars ($500.00) or fraction thereof in the cost
of al1 proposed work.
In�no case shall the fee charged for any permit as set forth in Section 2 be less
than $7.50 plus $.50 state surcharge.

NOTE: Permits for construction will be issued a minimum of 24 hours from the time
of application to allow for proper review of the pro,posed structure and of the
construction site.
A Certificate of Survey of the lot, showing the location of the foundation once it
has been constructed will be required before �roceedir.g with the framing.

Application for a Certificate of Occupancy shall be made ten (10) days prior to the
use or occupancy of any structure for which a building permit has been issued; and
said structure shall not be used or occupied until a Certificate of Occupancy has
been issued.

This letter is in response to your letter of September 21, 1995.
PW95-136
The City Ordinance calls for a permanent disconnection of sump pumps from the sanitary sewer
system. In your letter and the report from our Public Works employees, you currently have a hose
connection for your sump pump discharge. This is not acceptable as anyone could readily unscrew
the hose and implement a discharge into the sanitary sewer system.
To preclude any inadvertent changes in the discharge system, the City requires that either a plastic
or copper connection be made from the sump pump to the exterior of the building. As the interior
piping is within the strueture, you should not experience any problem with plastic pipes and their
connections. If this is a concern, you could certainly use a copper tubing or galvanized pipe system
to the exterior of the house.
I understand your situation but as a means of ensuring there are no problems in the future with
either change of ownership or other situations, we do require a fixed connection in lieu of a flexible
hose for a sump pump discharge.
If you can initiate this change and have the system re-inspected within the next two weeks, we will
be able to modify your bill accordingly. Otherwise, the ordinance requires that a sump pump
discharge fee be applied to your quarterly water billing.

Dear Mr. Flora;
I recently received a letter from the City of Fridley Finance Director, Mr.
Pribyl, threatening me with the imposition of a surcharge for the illegal
discharge of water into the sanitary sewerage system.
I have lived in this house since my husband and I had it built in 1978, and
at no time has any water from the basement sump pump discharged
anywhere but quite legally out onto the front yard. Two men from the
Public Works Department have come to inspect the system, the first on
May 31, the second on Monday of this week. Both told me that the sump
pump discharge was not illegal but that I am supposed to run it through
plastic pipe instead of the flexible hose that is there now.
My reason for not wanting to make the change is simple: having had
repeated problems with plastic pipes that leaked or pulled apart, I do not
trust them, and installation in this site would require a minimum of four
connections to go around corners, each a potential disaster. The flexible
hose is a common-sense solution, and has been completely reliable for
over seventeen years.
Si�ce my husband died i have iiveei alor�e, work �uil-time and Trequently
need to be away for several days at a time. Leaving the house unattended
is a worry now, and it would be much worse to envision returning to a
flooded basement.
I respectfully request that I be permitted to leave things as they are.

The Minnesota Elevator Safety Code provides that the Minnesota Depa�tment of Labor and Industry,
Building Codes and Standards Unit, Elevator Safety Section issue a letter of approval for all elevators,
dumbwaiters, escalators, moving walks, wheelchair lifts and manlifts (endless belt lifts) before they
can be legally put into service in Minnesota. �
We received a letter stating that all recommended corrections have been addressed. We will
acknowledge that certification. This letter will serve as official approval for you to operate your
elevator. If at any time we find that the recommendations were not corrected, we will take action to
assure compliance with statute, rules and adopted codes.
NOTE: Compliance with Minnesota Rules and the ANSI/ASME A17.1, Safety Code for Elevators
and Escalators does not necessarily assure compliance with the Americans With
Disabilities Act of 1990.

The Chief Building Official shall, before issuing permits for the erection of any building or
structure, or for any addition to any existing building or structure, or for any alteration or repair
to any existing building or structure, upon application therefore, require the payment by the

VERIFICATION OF FOUNDATION
Permits for construction will be issued a minimum of 24 hours from the time of application to
allow for proper review of proposed structure and of the construction site.
