A rough-in inspection of the 6408 East River Road addition revealed a Code violation which could be considered a hardship to correct on the part of the o�nrner. Work on the addition necessitated adding onto the stairway of the original house to the basement. The owner was told of the Code requiring a 6 foot 6 inch minimum headroom clearance in all stairwells in new construction. The owner moved a furnace pipe and increased the headroom in the original stairwell from 5 feet 2 inches to 6 feet 3� inches. But to attain the 6 feet 6 inch minimum requirement would involve relocating the staiYway above (which leads to the 2nd story) and changing two doors. In a� much as the original house is involved, and the headroom clearance has been substantially increased, I feel that the 2� inch deviation is tolerable.
