The purpose of the meeting was to clarify some of the points that had been raised
with Ralph Carlson the week before.
Exterior:
The ordinance requires blacktopping between the road and the entrance gate. It is
acceptable to leave the rest of the driveway and the parking lot in crushed rock to
maintain a natural appearance.
Interior:
1. Mr. Clark wants a letter from Colleen asking for a waiver of handicapped access.
2. Mr. Clark suggested that the door leading to Room 1 from the existing hall be
closed with block rather than sheetrock, to make it a 2 hour wall. He also
suggests that Door No. 2 and B2 be rated for one and one-half hour and tiave a
closer. The duct going through this wall has to be equipped with a fire damper.
(This exceeds UBC, 1982 requir•ements for occupancy separation by a one hour
wall and 20 minute doors.)
The following items pertain to the existing building and were not part of the addition,
nor were they included in the budget:
1. Battery powered exit lights are required in the dorm and at the top of the stair
leading to the exit at the north end of the dining wing. These can be combined
with regular exit lights.
2. A lever handle should replace the knob at the lower exit door at the north end.
3. The original alarm system provided in the building apparently has been dismantled.
The fire chief suggested that eventually the smoke detection system should be tied
into the central alarm system. .
Colleen demurr:ed, stating that an inspection had been made of the entire building last
year. These points had not been brought out. Operating budget contains no funds to
make these corrections this year. She will write a letter to the building inspector's
office giving the time table for accomplishing the corrections requested. This is
acceptable to the officials; however, Mr. Clark said that the building permit would
contain stipulations about the corrections being made eventually.

You have visited the Camp Lockeslea site recently, and have been given a copy
of the plans for proposed building and site improvements. At your suggestion,
this letter is transmitted to request waiver of the requirement for a hard-
surfaced driveway and handicapped access when new construction is involved.
Working with a limited sitework budget, it was our intention primarily to
provide a wider, thus safer, more stable surface for the existing drive and
parking lot, although we would relocate a small portion of the driye, farther
away from the front door of the lod�e. Possibly such work could be considered
more as repairs than new construction, but more specifically, we base our
request on the contention that a simple, crushed rock driveway is more
esthetically appropriate to a Girl Scout camp setting than would be an asphalt
or concrete drive. We shall, though, plan to blacktop the apron adjoining
the highway right-of-way as you suggested.
We also have requested not to be required to meet handicapped codes at this
building since we own a completely handicapped accessable camp property in
Mound. We appreciate your consideration, and ask that you do not hesitate
to call us if you have questions or need more information.
