t•10TION by Councilman Nee to set a Public Hearing on the rezoning qdest by
Berkely Pump Company ZOA �74-02, for the second meeting in June June 70, 1974.
Seconded by Councilman Utter, Upon a voice vote, all voting a, Mayor Liebl
declared the motion carried unanimously.
ARMORY PROPOSAL FOR FRIDLEY:
The City Manager recalled that the Council had sent thi matter back to the
Planning Cort'mission and the Planning Comnission reco ndation was thdt the
Council should look favorably on this request. He p nted out that Hastings had
6uilt such an Armory. fle said that this would be matter in which money would
be involved and it would take from $9,000 to $10, 0 City money Qer year to
finance this for a 20 year period. The City Ma ger said it wouid be poss.i6le
for the Administration to bring back a comolet report to the Council with
additional facts and data. 6e said it would so 6e possible to contact General
Cheeseman and request his attendance at a C ncil meeting to explain the concept.
Counci7man Breider stated he believed th planned approach by the City Manager
would be a good one. He said much of t talk about the Armory is in a questionable
sense. He pointed out that this would not only Se a monetary conanitment, but also
a donation of three acres of land on he part of the City. Councilman Breider
said he would like to see sane fact 7 information on the projected usage of
this area. He questioned if there ould be a need in the future for more garage
space, or the need for additiona storage for the City. He asked �vhat uses
the CIty could possibly make of his portion of property. He also questioned
the need for this construction hen there are other buildings within the City
which would provide the same acilities. The many schools and the arena were
ezamples of this type of fa lity. -
1'he City Manager said the ity has another piece of property in the vicinity
of Central Avenue and Ri e Creek Road which could be used for Armory purposes.
He said there wou7d be dvantiages and disadvantages with each of the sites.
Ft0TI0N by Councilman reider to instruct the Ci!y Manaoer to prepare a fact
sheet on the propos for the Armory in the City of Fridley. Seconded by
Councilman Starwal . Upon a voice vote, all voting aye, Mayor Liebl declared
the motion carrie unanimously.
The Cit�.Manager explained this property to be west of Matterhorn Drive and owned
by the/Archdiocese of St. Pau1.

Pla P. S. q74-02, Grace High School Addition, by Jerome N. Julius for June
10, 1974. Seconded 6y Councilman Utter. Upon a voice vote, all voting aye,

f1ayor Liebl pointed out that the Planning Commission recomnended approval of the �
Special Use Permit. Mayor Lietrl asked if �4r. 61om was present at the meeting
and also if he would like te address the CounciL �Mr. Blom indicated he was
present, but had no additional information.. - ��
Councilman Starwalt said this request was in the vicinity of his home and he
could not see any reason for objection to this request.
MOTION by Councilman Starwat to concur with the recomnendation of the Planning
Cortmission and grant the Special Use Permit as requested by Mr. Gerald 61om
for 5845 Hackmann /lvenue N. E. Seconded by Councilman Utter.. Upon a voice vote
all voting aye, Itayor Liebl declared the motion carried unanimously.
