Compl thinks his neighbors woodburning stove is polluting the air. Compl states the smoke
from the stove penetrates his walls and also the vent for his dryer.
Compl states they spoke to Steve Olson last year, but nothing was done. I advised compl
I would refer his complaint to Steve Olson again and they will follow this up with a phone
call.
The smoke was very noticeable while I►vas taking this complaint

accessory building or use and a side property li�e, except as stated in
Section 205.04.5.8 (2) and (3).
Public purpose served by this re�uirsrent is to pravide space between
individual structures to reduce oonflagratim of fi.re, to provide acoess
to the rear yazd for emergencies, and to limit the conditim of crwx3ing

position of cars using the space. Because the users work different hours,
this requires waking people up to move cars."

The petitirner pxesently has a two-car garage of tandan design; therefore,
staff interpreted that the nealy appxvved ordinance a�nt allaaing
single car garage expaz�sioa� into tw�o car side-by-side da�m to 3 feet wuld
nat be administered.
If the Board approves the request daan to 3 feet, the staff recamiends
that the garage wall �jacent to the side lot line be a one-hour fire-
resistant wall with m unprotected openin9s•
Mr. Clark stated there was a similar situation almost across the street fran the
petitio�ner's house where a single car garage (mt a tairiem garage) was allaaed to
be exparr]ed to a double car garage without a variance under the criteria of the
r�w ordinance passed last year. The reason Staff felt they oould not hardle this
request under the new ordinance was because it was really a two-car garage, but with
a single width.

Mr. Clark stated the petitioner wanted to widen the garage to the south and west
up to 3 ft. fran the property line to make an 18'� ft. wide qaxage.
Mr. Clark stated that, as stated in the staff report� if t� request was granted,
they should stiFulate that the wall next to the lot line be a fire-rated wall and
that there be no openings in that wall unless they were fire rated a�.so.
Mr. Iverson, oontractor for Mr. 5kallet, stated the plan was to expand the whole
length of the tand�n garage to 18�, ft. This was being done as �uch far aesthetics
as it was for space. He stated they will mt build in any way that would be offen-
sive. They will continue ti�e sic,�t lines and do it in acconiar�e with all the
codes. The garage with the expansiom wvuld be a little over 800 sq. ft. He stated
they have no probl�n with the fire-rated wall.
Mr. I�nerson stated Mr. 5kallet has other things he would like to do with the house
with the space in the back in the future; however. those plans were oontingent upon
whether or not he can expand to a two car side-by-side garage as opposed to the
tandem he has naa. �^Ilien Mr. Skallet purchased the property about five years ago,
it was a tandem garage at that ti.me. The tandsn garage was alric�lt for a family
with only one person working, but both Mr. Skallet and his wife work with varying
kmurs, so t]�e single car width was a real hanc3ship for than.
Mr. Barna asked abait the possibility of a windaa in the back of the garage on
the southwest corner not adjacent to the house an the adjoini.ng property because
that area of the garage oould be pretty dark.
Mr. Barna state3 if they want a windw�, they aan put in wire-glass. He stated if
wirx%w was put in the back of the garage that was not fire-rated, there was always
the possibility that the house next door might be expanded at some future time.
It was hard to go back and change things then. It was better and cheaper to put
the fixe-rated window in naa.
Mr. Clark stated that, again, he wanted to say that evexything about this request
met the criteria of the r�w ordinanoe, except that the garage was two-car deep•

It was not quite a dovble garage, but a tandan qarage certainly provided s�ficient
hardship that he thought the same ruies should apply.
Mr. Kuechle stated he agreed with Dr. Vos and Mr. Sherek.

A mechanical pernut was issued on November 10, 2003 to install a fumace and air
conditioner at your address. According to the 1991 Uniform Mechanical Code a final
inspecdon shall be conducted on the work authorized by this permit. As of this date the
inspection has not been requested.
The permit fee that was paid covers the inspection to make sure the work was completed
according to the Codes. We will keep your pemut open for another 30 days and if we do
not hear from you within this time to set up the inspection, we will mark the permit "no
inspection called for by homeowner after nodfication° and the permit will be expired.
