Dear Mr. Brenny:
It was a pleasure to meet you on Monday, June 12, 1995, and to review your landscaping. This
letter will serve to recap the items we discussed at our meeting. .
For the area to the rear of your property, I suggested that you consider a change in
plant materials from the existing 7unipers to any number of the following plant
materials: Fleece Flower, Periwinkle, Ajuga, Native Daisies or native plant
materials such as Columbine, Lead Plant, Purple Cone Flower, etc. I have
included a list of ground covers for rough sites for your review. As you can see,
the pamphlet was developed by the University of 1V�innesota's Agricultural
Eutension Service. You will note that there are a number of plant: materials wluch
would be salt tolerant, however, I do recommend planting sod in the first 18"
adjacent to the curb.
2. We discussed selectively replacing a number of existing evergreens at the
intersection of your driveway and Heather Circle with either Azaeleas or ,
Rhododendrons. Both plant materials are tolerant of acidic soils, and shauld do
very well in that location. They will provide a variety of colors during the growing
season as they flower during the last weeks of May and the beginning of June prior
to leafing out.
3. I also suggested collecting a variety of soil samples from your property, and
submitting them to the University's soil testing service on the University of
Minnesota St. Paul campus. I believe that they do testing for a minimal fee.
Specifically, the soil should be tested for its pH level, as evergreen plant materials
prefer slightly acidic soils. If necessary, a soil conditioner to lower the soil pH
should be applied to improve the growing environment for the evergreens.
