Dear Sirs:
This letter is to make clear this department's requirements Por the suiimming pool
construction at the above address.
1. As indicated, tvo (2) akimmers approved Dy the National Sanitation Foundation
aill be provided.
2. As indicated� four (4) inlets of approved design for fresh and/or repurified
Water will be provided.
3. As indicated, a main drain of approved construetion Will be provided.
4. The filter and pump shall be approved by the N.S.F. and be of sufficient
capacity to provide a minimum turnover of at least tWO (2) times in 24 hours.
This department recommends a turnover rate of 6- 8 houra.
5. A deck of at least three (3) feet Wide, measured from the pool waters edge,
shall be provided vhich extends eompletely around all private residential pools.
Above ground private residential pools may be provided With decking oP a minimum
size of 4 feet by 4 feet at pool entry points and provided that such decking has
the approval oP the City.
6. The diving area �ill be acceptable provided there is no overhead obstruction.
7. Fencing or other effective means including but not limited to Walls or
buildings, acceptable to the Citq, shall be provided to positively control all
access to public and private residential aWimming pools. Fencing shall meet the
folloWing criteria:
(a) The fencing shall prevent the entrance of children and be Without hand or
foot holds that �rould enable a person to elimb over it.
(b) The feas�eing shall be at least 6 feet high and entrances ahall be equipped
With self-closing and self-latehing gates capable of being locked.
(c) SelP-closing and self-latehing deviees ahall be placed at the top of the
gate or otheriaise inaccessiDle Lo amall children.
(d) The opening betWeen the bottom of the fenee and the ground or other
aurPace shall be not more than four inches.

9. Al1 electrical and pl�bing installations shall be inspeeted and approved by
the City Inspection Department.
10.� All overhead electrical lines must be a minimum of 10 feet horizontally from
the pool surface, and 18 feet straight line distanee from the Waters edge. An
alternative is to bury said lines.
11. The pool Pill apout muat be protected bq a vacu�mm breaker or air-gapped.
12. Suitable safety equipment to include but not limited to a ring buoy and rope
that is 1-1/2 times the pool diameter and shepherds crook pole must be provided
and maintained With the pool at all times.
Furthermore, these and any other requirements must meet the provisions of the
Fridley City Code, Section 115, Sarimming Pools. The building permit is approved
eontingent on final inspections and approval of the City.

It was brou�t to my attention the first part of Novenber that you had contracted
to reroof the home at 6972 Hickory Drive N. E. , Fridley. It is also my
�derstanding that you oompleted the job prior to the heavy rains in July.
Zhe haneawner, Mr. Dean Maeser, claims that they experienced a water stain in
their living roan oeiling as a result of a roof leak. �hey also state that they
had called you to oome out and oorrect the problen.
I have ca].led you on four occasions and have gotten the message recorder on all
four calls. ZWo calls were ma3e in Novenber (17th & 23rd) and you did return my
Nov�nber 23rd call on the 23rd or 24th and stated you would be out on the
follawing Monday or �iesday; you did not get here then and have not gotten out
yet. I called you twice in December (8th & 9th ) and left messages on your
reaorder and to date you have not returned those calls.
On Deoember 10, 1987 I again visited the hane and went up onto the roof to see if
I oould determine the reason for t�e water getting into the attic. It is a new
roof witi� a ridge vent installed along the peak of the roof for attic ventilati�.
In my opinion the ridge is r�ot ventered on the ridge causing rain water to run
tawards the ver�t openings in the ridge instead of away from the vent openings and
cbwn into the weep holes intendecl to drain the system. It also appears that
regular metal or steel nails were used instead of the required corrosive resistant
c,�lvanized nails to fasten the ridge to the roof.
Zhere are two other serious �ohlems witi� t3�is p�oject: (v You did not obtain the
required contractor's lioense in FYidley prior to wnstruction, and (2) You did
not obtain the required building permit far the work prior t,o aonstruction. �ese
two items were brou�t to your attention during our November phone call�.
