1.0 SUBJECT
Master Mark Rhino Composibe Decking.
2.0 DESCRIPTION
2.1 General:
Master Mark Rhino woodhermopiasUc composite deck
boards are recognized for use as floodng and nonstructural
trim components for ederior balconies, porches, decks, and
other exterior walking surFaces under the 1997 Uniform
Building CodeTM' (UBC), the 2000/ntemational8uilding Code
(IBC), and the 2000 Intemational Residential Code (IRC).
Master Mark Rhino deck boards are not recognized for use in
interiorframing applicatlors, such as truss components, or as
joists, rafters, studs, beams, columns or posts.
2.2 Master Mark Rhino Deck Boards:
Master Mark Rhino deck boards are made from a
manufactured composite material that consists of at least 50
percent wood flbers by weigM, with the remainder of the
material being a thermoplastic polymer plastic. The deck
boards are manufactured by an extrusion process in
accordance with the approved qual'ity control manual, to
produce comparable lumber-sized members. Sizes of Master
Mark Rhino deck boards are designated as nominal 6/; by-6
[actually 1.0 inch by 5.38 inches (25.4 mm by 136.7 mm)].
The average specific gravity of the deck boards is 1.08.
The average installed welght of the normal 6/, deck boards is
5.5 psf (2.5 kg).
Master Mark Rhino wood-thermoplastic composite material
has a flame-spread index of 200 or less when tested in
acxordance with UBC Standard 8-1 (ASTM E 84).
2.3 Deslgn:
2.3.1 Allowable Stresses: Table 1 lists allowable stress
values for the Master Mark Rhino deck boarcJs recognized in
thls report. These values must not be adjusted by any of the
adjustment factors permitted for wood ftaming referred to in
the applicable code, wlth the exception that increases for load
duration, Co, are permitted. The allowable stress values are
applicable for uses where the materials are exposed to an In-
service madmum temperature of 125°F (51.7°Gy.
2.3.2 Allowable Spans: Table 2 lists allowable spans for
Master Mark Rhino boards used as planking (flatwise
bending). As an altemate, other allowable spans of Master
Mark Rhino deck boards can be permitted, provided the
user/designer submits structural calculations based on the
ailowable stresses In Table 1 to the buliding official for
approval of the speciflc applicatlon.
2.3.3 Fasteners: Altowable withdrawal and lateral design
values for nails, virood screws, and bolts used as fasteners for
the Master Mark Rhino deck boards must be determined
using the fastener deslgn formulae for solld-sawn lumber in
the applicable code. For purposes of calculating allowable
lateral load values for nails, vod screws, and bo{ts, Master
Mark Rhino waod-thermoplastic material has an equivalerrt
speciflc gravity of 0.73. For purposes of calculatlng allowable
withdrawal load values for nails and wood screws, Master
Mark Rhino wood-thermoplastic matedal has an equivalent
specific gravity af 0.45. No allowable stress or duration of
load increases, indlcated in the applicable code, are
permitted when fastener capacities are designed.
Fasteners used with the Master Mark Rhino material must
comply with the followmg:
1. Nails must have a diameter less than or equal to that of a
16d common nail [0.162 inch (4 mm) dlameter].
2. Wood screws must have a diameter less than or equal to
that of a No.12 screw [0216 inch (5.5 mm) dlameter].
3. Bolts must have a dlameter less than or equal to'/z inch
(12.7 mm).
The minimum nail and screw edge and end dlstances are
both 3/, inch (19 mm). Minimum nail and screw spacing is 2
inches (51 mm). Nominal design values for driven fasteners
permitted by this evaluation report applyto nailed connections
with or without bored holes. For ddven fasteners having a
diameter equal to 0.148 inch (3.76 mm) or less, Master Mark
Plastic Products recommends pre-bored holes. For driven
fasteners having a diameter greater than 0.148 inch (3.76
mm), pre-bored holes are required. The diameter of the
bored hole must not exceed 90 percent of the fastener
diameter.
2.4 Durabl6ty:
The Master Mark Rhino material is recognized for use where
the appllcable code requires solld-saw+n lumber to be
preservatfve-treated or rraturaliy dureble lumber.

As for cooling, it is far better than a conven-

ColdClimate Technology
was developed by
– ECONAR with the idea
tha.t the industry yard-
stick on energy perfor-

' point. What we really
wanted to offer was a heat
mp that is not only better than a
nventional system, but also
1dClimate optimized.
ECONAR manufacturers
the only geothermal heat pump
built to withstand the harshest
weather conditions ranging from
110°F to -60°F. Other manufac-
tured heat pumps are air condition-
ers that only provide some of the
heating. ECONAR's units are
designed to heat and cool up to
100% of the shucture.
The Geosource is designed
to extract the earths energy at 25°F
loop temperatures, the standard
high efficiency geothermal heat
pump can only extract the earths
energy at 32°F. This makes us the
leader in ColdClimate Technology.
ECONAR offers you the
most efficient, cornfortable,
reliable and quiet heat pump avail-
able today. With installations for
both commercial and residential
projects, with applications of
forced air, hydronic and combina-
tions, there is one to fit every need.

Hydronac
Heat Pumps
CONAR Energy Systems, Corporarion is the only North American
manufacturer of Co1dClimateT"' GeoSource° heat pumps. Cold climates
demand comfortable, eff'icient heating while not compromising cooling or
humidity control. ECONAR ColdClimate GeoSource heat pumps deliver.
 . _
Hydronic heating systems have become much more popular in recent years by providing extremely comfortable, concentrated warmth
where you want it, without the air movement or noise of a convenrional system. When radiant heating comfort is coupled to
ECONAR's hydronic heat pump's efficiency, where C.O.P.'s over 5.0 or 6.0 can be achieved you have the ideal heating system
ECONAR's hydronic heat pump transfers energy from and to the earth-coupled heat source to hydronic heating and cooling heat
exchangers with energy efficiencies unachievable by any other means. Our water-to-water heat pumps supply heated or chilled water
for use in a wide range of heating and cooling applicarions. A water/anrifreeze solution circulates through the hydronic heat pump,
supplying energy to any nuxnber or types of external heat exchangers.
Hydronic Side Applications.
Radiant floor heating. The most popular form of hydronic heat is radiant floor heating. This heating method maintains the heat
comfortably near the floor eliminating drafts. Very high efficiencies are achieved by consistently supplying a large floor mass with
low temperature heat. Applications range from heating a comfortable cozy family room, heating the whole house, heating your garage
or shop, heating a church all the way to heating your large office or commercial warehouse.
Fan Coils. Fan coils coupled to the GeoSource heat pump provide condirioned air to one or more comfort zones. Sizing is based on air
temperature and flow rate. These systems can be extremely economic and versatile means of zoned temperattue and humidity control
for applications such as large homes, off'ice spaces, schools community buildings, libraries, churches and hotels.
Other Applications. Many other hydronic applications such as swimming pools, hot tubs, tank heating, base board/finned tube, and
radiators are easily sized based on temperature, flow rate, heat dissipation, and add to the numerous possible uses of ECONAR
hydronic heat pumps.

45 ksi (306 Mpa), or Schedule 40 carbon steel pipe; 0.226-inch
thick (5.7 mm), manufactured 'm accordance with ASTM A 501,
with a minimum yield point of 36 ksi (250 Mpa) and a maxim
ultimate strength of 58 ksi (400 Mpa). Eleven-gage, 0.12-inch thick
(3.0 mm) Monoposts are available in three Series (200, 300 &
400). Schedule 40 0226-inch thick (5.7 mm) Monoposts are
available in one Series (Schedule 40-300). The 200 Series uses 3-
inch (77 mm) outside diameter (O. D.) steel tubing. The 300 Series
and Schedule 40-300 Serias use 31/2-inch (89 mm) O.D. stael
tubing or steel pipe. The 400 Series uses 4-inch (102 mm) O.D.
steel tubing. The 200 and 300 Series have lengths ranging from 6
feet to 10 feet 3 inches (1.8 m to 3.1 m). The 400 Serias has
lengths ranging from 6 feet to 12 feet (1.8 m to 3.8 m). Tapco M&
H Series Monoposts adjust up to 3 inches (77 mm) in height (see
Figtue 1 of this report).
The H Series columns have a 1/8-inch (6.4 mm) thick (ll4-inch
thickness also available) C-1010 HR steel"H" plate welded to one
end to allow for a connection between the column and a wood or
steel beam (see Figure 2 of this report).
The M Series columns have a 4 v4-inch by 71/2-inch by 1/8-inch
thick (108 mm x 191 mm x 3.2 mm) steel plate (1I4-inch thiclmess
also available) and two (2) 3/32-inch by 5/8-inch by 8-inch (53 mm
x 16 mm x 203 mm) steel straps. The steel plate is welded to one
end of the column by the manufacturer. The straps are installed in
the field through oblong holes in the steel plate to allow for a
connaction between the column and a wood or steel beam (see
Figiue 3 of this report).
The adjustment machanism for the M 8c H Series Monoposts is as
follows: a 3/4-inch thick (19 mm) or a 1-inch thick (25 mm) (for the
Schedule 40-300 Series) "shoulder" nut cut from C-1215 steal; a
1 1/4-inch (32 mm) O.D. or a 1 1/2-inch (38 mm) O.D. (for the
Schedule 40-300 Series) screw cut from C-1215 steel to provide
the adjustment; a 15J32-inch (12 mm) dianieter x 7 U2-inch long
(191 mm) "handle" cut from G1215 steel to adjust the screw; and
a 1/8-inch thick (3.2 mm) (1t4-inch thickness also available) C-1010
HR steel "swivel" plate attached to the screw in a fashion that
allows the plate to rotaxe.
