Street Light Relocation
5664 Jackson Street

On April 5, 1982, I responded to Counilman Schneider's request for
information pertaining to the street lights located at 5664 Jackson
Street. .
We have received the estimates from NSP for relocating the light poles.
To remove the two poles on Carrie Lane and relocate the street light to
the southeast corner of Jackson Street and Carrie Lane is approximately
675. To remove the pole on Carrie Lane between the two properties and
restring the power line to the corner light is approximately $200.
Request guidance on which proposal we are to follow up on, if any, and
how this work will be fundedo

MEMOAANDUM
ACTIONI INFO•
This memo is in response to Councilman Schneider's memo dated April 2, 1982,
pertaining to the possibility of relocation of the street light at 5664 Jack-
son.
We {avevisited the area and initiated coordination with NSP on costs and
possibility of relocating the street light at the intersection of Jackson
and Carrie Lane. It appears that the street light wiring could be modified
in such a way as to eliminate the pole between the two properties on Carrie
Lane. There i also the possibility of relocating the street light to the
southeast corner of Jackson and Carrie Lane, which would result in two poles
being removed from the residential property.
In the past whenever we requested street lights to be changed from mercury
to mor efficient sodium vapor, NSP has accomplished this work at no cost.
Their policy now is to charge for the manpower and materials involved in
such work. Accordingly, we have requested these figures from NSP. Also in-
volved with this request, is the string of new lines, pole relocations and
replacements. We have requested NSP provide us their recommendation pertain-
ing to this problem, an associated costs with new alternatives they might
provide. We anticipate to receive this information later this week. Once
he costs have been received, we will provide this information to Councilman
Schneider.and for City Council's consideration of this request, provided the
Gosts we are provided are substantial.

I was contacted by Jim Locker of 5664 Jackson Street regalyding the street
light in the corner of his lot. Mr. Locker is on the corner of Jackson and
Carrie Lane. There is a street light on his corner which is at the
intersection of Jackson and Carrie Lane. 'here is another street light at tie
intersection of Jackson and Quincy Street. Zfie wires for the street light on
Mr. Locker's property came fram a ple in the northwest corner of his lot in
the back. Z'he wire then runs to a pole in the southwest oorner of his lot and
fram there goes to the pole that contains the street light in the southeast
corner of his lot.
Mr. Floyd Aessevick who lives to the west of Mr. Locker recently called NSP
and askec thn if it was possible to move the wire which is between his and
Mr. Locker's property. Z'he reason for removal of the wire is because the wire
causes successive tree trirraning on trees that are on the property line. NSP
indicated that they would move the wire so that the street light on Mr.
Locker's property would be served from the wire which is now serving the
streetlight at Quincy and Carrie Lane. Mr. Locker has four telephone poles in
his yard (one in each corner) . Ae was wonciering if it would be possible, as
long as NSP is moving wires, to move the two poles in the south of his yard
across the street. Z'here is nothing across the street except the guardrail so
the traffic does not go into the 100 ain Drive-In. If these two poles were
moved, the street light could be placed across the street fram Mr. Locker and
the wires running along the southern border of Carrie Lane not over anyone's
property. I inc3icated to Mr. Locker that the movement of the poles would
probably result in cost to the city but that I would investigate and see if
anything could be done.
I would like to find out first of all:
A. Is 3.t possible for us to accorranadate Mr. Locker's wishes?
B. If not, what is the cost of moving the poles anc3 would there be some
possibility of sharing that cost with Mr. Locker.
Finally would it be possible to move the pole that does not have the street
light but that is on the southwest corner of Mr. Locker's lot across Carrie

I realize this is unusual, however if you take a look at the lot, it is
bounded on three sides by wires and an all four corners by telephone pol. I
believe if there is anything that we oould c7o that I would be in favor of at
least bding some rules to try to make the situation a little bit better.
