Subject lllegal Discharge of Sump Pumps Directly to the Street
Dear Mr. Broman:
I iI7iZ711
The direct discharge of your sump pump to the City street is creating a public safety issue and
is, therefore, illegal under City Code Section 110 - Public I`luisance. The water and ice from the
sump pump discharge is obviously creating a very hazardous situation on Jackson Street
Specifically, Section 110.02 defines a public nuisance as °maintaining a condition that endangers
the safety of the public and renders dangerous the passage of a public street°
You must cut off your discharge pipe at least 10 feet back of the curb to allow this water to soak
back into the ground rather than Flooding the street The constant Flow of water and infiltration
into the soil will prevent frost from sealing the ground completely. Ice may still form in your yard
and on the City boulevard but will reduce or eliminate the hazard you are creating in the street
This disconnect must be completed by Monday, February 20, 2006. The City will be inspecting
these disconnects shortJy thereafter. If the disconnect is not completed, the City will perform the
work to abate this nuisance and you will be billed for all costs incurred.
As a reminder, discharge to the sanitary sewer is also prohibited and will incur a300 per quarter
surcharge.
Please call me at 763-572-3550 if the work is completed soon or if you have questions.
Sincerely,
,
