The Public Works Department has investigated the problem, and found that the volume of sump pump water is too large to contain on the residents' property, leaving no alterna.tive but to discharge the water into the gutter. The continual flow of water in the gutter oii Jackson Street is, however, causing problems for residerrts located between the discharge point and the catchbasin on 73rd Avenue. Several residents who ha.ve contacted me are concerned about the slippery green slime, mosquitos and street damage that is caused by the area continually being wet. I have advised the residents who ha.ve contacted me that the properties discharging water into the gutter are not in violation, and tha,t there are no reasona.ble alternatives available. I also suggested that they could discuss the matter with their neighbors and petition the City Council to extend storm drainage from 73rd Avenue to 7391 7ackson Street, as this would be the only permanent solution to the sump pump discharge problem.
