Other pertinent details:
This mid-afternoon fire, reported by a neighbor, began in the basement of the Mutzberg residence.
The owner was not at home during the fire. Arrangements was made by the owner to have the house
secured and utilities restored following the fire. Damage to the basement contents and structure was
moderate to extensive and there was smoke damage throughout the home. A dog belonging the
owner's brother expired during the fire. No other injuries were reported.

American Engineering Testing, Inc. (AET) has performed ihe requested truss design review for
the fire damaged house located at 700 Kennaston Drive in Fridley, Minnesota. The scope of our
work was limited to performing a design review for the house trusses to access if the center wall
was load bearing and supported the roof trusses. Our work was requested and authorized by Mark
Winfield of Marathon Maintenance on February 23, 2004.
AET personnel documented member sizes of', the typical roof trusses observed on February 23,
2004. AET's structural review indicates the trusses are not adequate to support the required loads
per the current Minnesota building code with removal of the center wall. Additional plywood
gusset plates at the peak and both locations where the lx6 meet the bottom cord, should increase
the load capacity of the connections to sufficiently support the imposed loads to the truss
members. Refer to attached drawings for needed gusset plate dimensions and nailing patterns.
For the purposes of this truss review we have assumed the following:
