Res 2002-16 RESOLUTION NO. 16-2002
A RESOLUTION EXTENDING SURVIVOR BENEFITS TO MEMBERS OF THE
CONSOLIDATED POLICE RELIEF ASSOCIATION
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Fridley is the official governing body of the City of
Fridley; and
WHEREAS, in 1994 the Minnesota Legislature enacted Laws of Minnesota 1994, Chapter 528,
Article 6, which provides pension benefits for a surviving spouse who married a retired or
deferred member of a police relief association or its successor board after the member's
retirement but at lease five years before the member's death; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has been informed by PERA, that the actuarial analysis completed
at the time of consolidation, included costs associated with providing the remaining two retirees
with the survivor benefit cost; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that approval of this legislation will not constitute any
additional financial burden on the City and will promote equity in the distribution of survivor
pension benefits; and
NOW,THEREFORE,be it resolved that the City Council of the City of Fridley approves+- the
Laws of Minnesota 1994, Chapter 528, Article 6 and directs the City Clerk to send a copy of this
Resolution to the Executive Director of the Legislative Commission on Pensions and Retirement,
the State Auditor, the Secretary of State and the Executive Director of the Public Employees
Retirement Association.
